So what can, I guess, ETF investors learn from these periods of market volatility? And, and what mistakes do people tend to make during downturns like these?
10:03
Yeah, well, uh, Tom, I signed the paperwork to become a director of our responsible entity in August 2007, so I remember the global financial crisis with, uh, uh, horrible pain.
10:18
I think the biggest mistake people make is to panic.
10:22
One of the features of those kind of market crises is, at the time, no one knew what was going to happen.
10:31
I think when you look back at some of those crises, whether it's, uh, '87, whether it's the tech wreck in 2001, whether it's a global financial crisis, whether it's the COVID sell-off, we look back with the benefit of hindsight, and we see that markets came back.
10:49
And so there's this temptation to look back and say, "Oh, you should hold on because markets will come back." But I can tell you, Tom, in every one of those crises, no one knew whether markets were going to come back.
11:04
And so the most important lesson is to invest for the long term, even if you don't know that markets are going to rebound back, because no one ever knows for certain.
11:58
Is that a legitimate concern or, or, or, or not quite?
