Um, uh, I think it's because it was the first and probably the only time, like, he was ever his true self around me.

It also, I, I'm feeling a little emotional now because I was able to make him feel okay for just at least a little while.

Um, I don't know how long I was there, maybe thirty minutes, maybe an hour, maybe longer.

I don't know.

But, you know, um, at a certain point, I was like, "Okay, I gotta go home," you know, and he just said, "Okay." He said, "Thank you for coming." And then we had a spontaneous hug.

A week or two later, he called Jonathan.

Kids save the mentor who trained them, a narrative Mr. Hudson was promoting.

He has said that after 30 years of climbing mountains, that was the low point since, you know, he, he almost died up on the mountain.

Jonathan skipped the Mount Olympus trip, but Mr. Hudson told him what happened.

One of his lines that he had after that is, "If something is worth learning, it's worth learning well," because you never know when it might save you or one of your friends' lives.
