... were some of the people that influenced you at that young age as you were growing to be the bus- musician you are today?
3:49
Well, there's been many people over the years who have had a great influence on me, musically and spiritually.
3:55
Started, of course, with my mum and dad, both of whom had a deep faith and were fully committed to the corps and the sections.
4:04
Dad instilled within Mark and I the discipline of practice, not only because Chalk Farm played at a good standard, but because this was part of our worship, and we wanted not just to be the best we could for the band, but also wanted to be the best we could for the highest, as the saying goes.
4:23
Uh, musically, Michael Clack, being bandmaster, had a big influence on me, not only when he was in front of the band, but he also gave me an appreciation of Chopin and Rachmaninoff, as he would rattle through a couple of preludes on a, on a Sunday afternoon program.
4:40
I still smile and think of Michael when I hear one of the pieces he used to play on Classic FM, 'cause they, they quite often played on, uh, on that, uh, station.
4:50
Uh, we're fortunate enough to have some very fine musicians in the band to, who I looked up to.

Uh, you said that you've seen a lot of the world with Chalk Farm Band, but you must have seen even more of the world with the Staff Band.
