Now it's an arms race for, can I make my kid better faster than anybody else?
3:22
The core of your answer, we've got to go deep down within us to just the way humans are wired.
3:29
We have a desire for what's called, uh, two, two human emotions called self-love and self-glory.
3:35
Self-love says we want people to like us.
3:39
Self-glory says we want people to think we're good at what we're doing.
3:43
And again, I stress those are natural human emotions.
3:47
They go back to the cavemen.

We, we, [laughs] when we have an inappropriate relationship with winning and losing, we don't realize that focusing on winning adds an unhealthy pressure and actually makes kids perform worse, is the example of the baseball player here.
24:15
Um, there's the study of, it was 13-year-old boys playing a pretty high-level basketball.
24:22
It was about 100 kids or so.
24:24
They followed them over the course of a year of something like 40 or 50 games, and they, they asked the kids their feelings on a sur- like, basically surveyed them after every game they played.
24:36
And what they found out-... was that everyone thinks winning is more fun than losing.
24:42
But what this study found out was that winning in an environment that was focused on outcomes was oftentimes less fun than losing in, uh, environments that focused on effort and growth.

8:42
At its core, it is capitalism.
8:44
It's capitalism using all of the dirty little tactics it can use to make money for a small group of people.
8:51
And the way we got here, let's back up.
8:55
The story I often tell is I had a neighbor growing up.
8:59
His name was Zach.
9:00
And Zach was a year younger than me.
