241. Jonathan Allen Wright - An Interview On CCM
J
11:45um no i mean i so i was raised like in a christian home my dad was a pastor and uh you know i have two brothers they're both musicians and so we we were all homeschooled and we were just uh maybe that's part of it is that i was homeschooled right but i was um big key it's a big key and um so we were just always kind of making music together but the way i grew up was not um like i i knew some homeschool friends that they grew up very like uh legalistic and you cannot listen to this you can listen to this that kind of lifestyle that was never what i experienced my parents were guarded obviously with what we listened to but at the same time like One minute I'd be listening to Stephen Curtis Chapman, the next minute my dad was like, you should listen to Boston.
J
12:38And we would listen to a Boston album or the Beach Boys or whatever.
J
12:43And so we kind of all developed our own music tastes and stuff, but it was always centralized back to going to the church and playing music together.
J
12:55and eventually my my older brother kind of phased out of wanting to play guitar so i picked it up and i played bass and piano at that point so i just kind of started picking up instruments however they would happen and uh started playing in the youth group and and just kind of developing that love for christian music but i never was i never was huge into the worship genre, I just didn't gravitate towards it.
J
13:27I was listening to Switchfoot and Reliant K and MXPX and OC Supertones.

Make some noise for the Christian Music Guys.
J
0:23[upbeat music] Guess I, you know, for a long time I was just kinda making music and working my job, running my business, and, um, I was actually a youth pastor before I was running my own business.
J
1:36And once I resigned from ministry, I had been making all of the video for my church, and I just thought, "Man," like, "Kinda miss making videos." So I started making YouTube videos and found like gradually people that wanted to watch them, and just my fascination kept growing with making these long-form videos, and I just kept going and kept going while still making music.
J
2:02And then, uh, maybe a few months ago, I told my wife, I was like, "I don't even know if I'm a musician who makes YouTube videos or a YouTuber who makes music." You know, like it's, it's flipped, and now I would say I'm definitely a YouTuber who makes music.

39:32You know, I, uh, I've always been doing video stuff, and have been editing for a long time, and most of the time just did it as a hobby.
J
39:44And then I, I worked for the church that I still attend, and when I was working there, I was editing all of their video, and editing any content we were making, and just loved doing it.
