Well, you're just advocating for the status quo and nothing could be further from the truth.

Jon MeddingsGUEST
So this came after a lot of thought, Courtney, and there's been a lot of conversation in the province as to where the province is going with the healthcare system.

Jon MeddingsGUEST
And a lot of physicians actually have mixed feelings and reservations about the, uh, about the direction we're going.

Jon MeddingsGUEST
Those concerns don't seem to get anywhere with the provincial government, and therefore, because healthcare in Canada is a dual responsibility, the province, um, manages the healthcare system, designs the healthcare system, but does so with funding and under, I guess, overarching strategic direction by the federal government with-- mandated through the Canada Health Act.

Jon MeddingsGUEST
And so because we weren't getting much response at all from the provincial government, and after some discussion with people in the federal government, we decided to write directly to the prime minister.

Jon MeddingsGUEST
So I'll, I'll say first of all that, uh, I've certainly also been to Sweden and looked at their healthcare system.

Jon MeddingsGUEST
A very good friend of mine is a dean of medicine over there, and we've had numerous discussions about the differences between Alberta's healthcare system and that of Sweden.
