Johnny Dwork was in the house.

Bird Song is arguably one of my three or four favorite Grateful Dead songs.

So, uh, and Comes a Time is n- in my top 10, so getting those two songs back to back, there's no distance I wouldn't have driven to have seen those two songs played back to back.

The only thing I can tell you about Hershey Park that I didn't like was the Day Job, which for me, that goes back to the only boner killer for me of the, uh, 10-year anniversary of the field trip show, um, at the Oregon Country Fairgrounds was that Day Job, which I literally turned to the person who I was with and I was like, "Did they just write a song for the, did they just write a theme song for like a TV sitcom comedy or something?"

Johnny came to the show with some coworkers from his job that summer.

I was working at a world-famous New Age retreat center in Upstate New York recording all the lectures.

And that was a really great experience for me.

I got to meet a lot of people from different walks of life.

While most of the staff working there were already in the whole New Age, alternative lifestyle, uh, health, new spiritual practices, movements [drum music].

There were occasionally people who came to that scene who knew nothing about any of that.

And there was a really sweet man from Upstate New York.

After a hot day in Berkeley, that as the air cooled down, [smacks lips] um, the air started to move.

And the smell of the eucalyptus trees up at the back of the Greek Theater wafted down into the amphitheater.

And so that classic northern California nature smell was present.

It was a form of aromatherapy.

Between that and the super dank bud that was being smoked.

[gentle music] Off stage right, midway up the amphitheater, right at the far edge of where the s- the seats ended, middle of the amphitheater.

He went to retrieve them from Tony's father's office.

I get these tickets, and I'm in a state of shock.

Like, my body is filled with adrenaline, and I'm, I'm trembling, holding these tickets, uh, like these miracle tickets.

And I devised this plan for what I would do, uh, on the way to the show.

I had already started hanging out in Central Park on Frisbee Hill, learning to become, uh, a really good Frisbee player, and there was a really cool hippie scene there.

And I decided that I would walk up 6th Avenue, cross over into Central Park, and walk up the Carriage Road, and go to, uh, Frisbee Hill, and show off my tickets to my Frisbee-playing friends while smoking a lot of the really good, uh, blonde hash that was going around Central Park at the time.

And right when I get to the corner of 6th Avenue and Central Park South, the light turns red, and this guy next to me taps me on the shoulder.
