It doesn't feel like that big a number, John, but should we worry about that in any way?
4:08
I actually don't think we should, because I don't think it's a permanent give-up.
4:12
This is actually about timing.
4:14
All these assets were deductible already.
4:16
It's just about allowing them to deduct early.
4:18
And if that means that companies can actually do more investment, that should spur the kind of economic growth that should pay for this, either in higher eventual corporate taxes across the board.
4:28
or employment taxes as we add more to the employment base, higher wages through better standards of living, and that productivity gains that we've been looking for.
5:12
Did you hear things that make you think that will boost that side of the ledger as well? Will your market get bigger and more robust as a result of this?
13:28
that treasure days in your youth right that was the you don't need to be the face
13:32
yeah so as i was in the cfo seat and um lou the ceo at the time he said you know what do you think about doing some leadership development around kind of ceo training no promises just to see if there's an interest there and i thought i thought it wasn't i never even thought of myself in the room before I thought, why not? There'll be some great learning.
13:52
So I did some great development work.
13:54
And I remember this really interesting exercise along the way where they worked with you kind of plotting out your career and your life on what were your super highs and your super lows.
14:02
You know, the biggest champions and the biggest pitfalls that set you back.
14:09
And, you know, because some people have charts that look like this.
14:11
Yeah.

What it's like to lead the organization in the context of geography, in the context now of a potentially really important role of these, what, middle power, to borrow a term from Mark Hurney? Like, how are you balancing and thinking about geography

31:49
do you make Canada more investable? How do you attract more of that pension fund money?
31:53
There are two pieces I'm going to talk to here, because there's actually two parts of the same story.
31:59
When you think about the pension money...
32:03
but also our bank structure, our dealer network, things like that in Canada in terms of the investing ecosystem.
32:10
We are a bit of a victim of our own success in some of those things because we've actually created some very large scale players in a country for the size of our economy.
32:19
And that makes it kind of challenging for a very large pension fund to deploy assets in small and growth stage companies.
32:25
And that's kind of the gap.

What are you hearing from CEOs in terms of their ability to shift from that wonderful market that's just a few minutes south of us to opening up new markets in Asia or finding new customers in Europe? I don't think there's an aversion to finding new
21:16
What's the real effect been so far? I mean, so
21:20
far, the real effect has been more noise than real impact.
21:24
A lot of companies, you've seen it in kind of the values of Canadian companies, actually held up pretty well.
21:28
There's been a lot of resilience through it.
21:31
but a lot of volatility.
21:33
So when we see it from an exchange standpoint, I have kind of two impacts.
21:38
One is a lot of volatility means a lot of trading activity.
24:45
Practically speaking, what are three changes you see happening as a result of this election that people can understand on a concrete level?
9:08
Please join me in welcoming John to the podium.
9:24
Well, good afternoon, everyone.
9:26
Jenna, thank you.
9:27
David, thank you.
9:27
It's always a privilege when you actually get to be introduced by someone you've gotten to work with for a long time.
9:31
We've been friends in the industry.
9:32
It's an extra special pleasure that way.

So if you had a favorite thing, do you have a favorite thing? Like maybe a chocolate bar or a sports equipment piece? I like
