Not, not ideal, uh, to be certain.

It's such a premium position, you know, uh, both the defensive line, it's, it's the great equalizer in today's football because everything's set up for offense.

And so we weren't good enough there last year, how do you, how do you...

We've spent a lot of our off-season trying to, to, to create chaos on the, on the, uh, on our defensive front, and those, those were two central figures to that.

So not ideal, um, but I do feel like now we're especially glad that we really bolstered our depth there this year.

Uh, Alfred, it was heartbreaking.

There's a couple of rookies who look like they could make a real impact on the offensive side of the ball, but before we get to them, what's it like for you as a, arguably one of the best defensive players to ever play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to go and bring in the best offensive player to ever play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this off-season?

Without the experience, what was the confidence that you had within yourself for how I can jump in and do this back in 2017?

yeah so um you know first of all team building the nfl um was always interesting to me so when i was you know they have the nfl draft which has become a really big thing i'm 55 54 years old and um When I was growing up, it wasn't a huge thing.

It was on a Thursday.

But my dad used to pull me out of school and we'd watch the draft together.

We were Chargers fans.

He would take off from work.

I'd take off from school.

Tell us about your passion for developing people you work with.

have to hit on your draft choices to make this the case, but

you know, you never want to be this middling team where you're, you're an aging team, and then you don't have a plan for the future.

Well, in order to have a plan for the future, you better hit on your draft choices.

And so while the household names haven't come from last year's draft, we think in totality there were 11 draft choices, Last year, all 11 were here and contributed.

And I think a lot of those guys, these are important years for them, year two and three.

The Alfred Collins, the C.J. West, other players, Jordan Watkins, Jake Cowing, to show that they're a part of this thing going forward.

And then your hope is that the Mikel Williams team, and Upton Stouts can take another jump so that they're not only guys that are nice guys to have on a roster, but their impact, their needle moving players.

John, when did you know that Kyle was all the way back or as close as you're going to get to being the Kyle Shanahan that we know and have seen operate for nine previous seasons?

So is there a thought to you don't have to play him week one, or is he kicking down the door?

Well, I think a combination of a lot of things.

First of all, from the very start, like nobody wants to rip an Achilles, but right from the start, got multiple opinions.

He went down to Eletrosh in Los Angeles, very, you know, noted surgeon.

And, you know, the one thing, Dr. Eletrosh, you know, when we spoke, he and I, he said, you know, George is going to come back from this really because he's obviously a stud genetically and all that.

But where he did it, you know, higher up on the Achilles, it tends to heal faster.

So I'm just going to tell you up front, I expect them to do really well, more blood supply up there.

What have been just kind of overall the biggest challenges of preparing for everything to get on that plane and take that flight on Wednesday?

There's a lot, you know, and I think an opportune time to give a shout out to our staff.

You guys see coaches, you see front office, you see players.

You also know there's a lot behind the scenes.

Our logistics folks Our folks that work in the cafe have just gone to tremendous lengths, our health and performance team, to make sure that we're giving our players the best opportunity to feel right when they play down there in Australia.

Everything from getting visas, which is much more complicated than I ever knew, and they've been outstanding.

They've worked in conjunction.

And I hope that continues through these practices.

And to a psychopath, this is just emboldens them to commit even more, uh, serious and violent crimes.

It's not so experimental anymore.

We started it 10 years ago, called the Pioneer Program, which is a combined academic and therapeutic experience, meaning that we address both the concerns of the Board of Education in delivering credits, plus we address the therapeutic and clinical needs of the residents in, uh, in our care at SILAPS School.

It's called evolutionary psychology, and it's a way of looking at the genetics that a person brings to their life.

It looks at the dynamics of the family that a person brings i- into their life, and it looks at thirdly, the broa- broader context of society or br- or community, local environment, and culture.

I still do that sometimes.

Mm.

Um, and under the will, uh, Peggy was effectively the sole beneficiary.

So again, flag, you know, one, you know, family would often get suspicious in those circumstances, and it excluded the rest of the family.

So there were two brothers, uh, involved, and there was a previous will in 2008.

And again, I suppose you wouldn't be surprised to know what the contents of that will was, and that was basically dividing it equally among all, all of the children.

So straight away, we have a number of red flags there from a, you know, familial point of view.

So the question then was, what do you do? Can you, can you just dispute it on the basis of saying, "Well, I, you know, I was one of the beneficiaries under the earlier will, and I wasn't under the later will.

A couple things I thought would be appropriate before we get started.

I know we have a lot to cover.

and just i know you can't know and it'll be based on what you hear from the doctors but is there a chance that kyle does not go to melbourne and the chance he's not coaching this team to start the season

What, what are your thoughts on this? Particularly, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on coffee cups, disposable coffee cups.

Yeah, well, it, it's great to hear Shane speaking, um, from, as a shop owner in Limerick, and Emer as well, and as well as Gareth, that there's, there's definitely been a drop in coffee cups, uh, being littered on the side of the streets.

We've always maintained, uh, for our compostable cups that we make here in Ireland, that they go into the brown bin.

The past was, uh, created Irish Composting Association, and, uh, my waste as well as specified the compostable cups can go into the brown food waste bin.

The, one of the main issues, and this really, really annoys us, is the fact that there's just not enough bins out there on the streets.

We need to educate people a lot more on how to use bins correctly, which particular bin.

So if you look at recycling on the go, and, you know, if there's a bottle of water or can of cola, um, recycling stations or recycling bins on the go is very, very minimal.

Mm-hmm.

Yep.

So, but like Kyle said, we did value him.

We really did.

We had good process with him.

We had a lot of, um, conviction.

Greasy, I remember, I always talk about Steve Slowik, the scout in that area.

He had talked to his college coach, and Matt Campbell was a stud, and Matt said, "This guy changed our program." And when a coach talks to you like that, that speaks to you.

So, but like Kyle said, we did value him.

So I think, um, I think, um, we were pleased with the way Colby performed at times last year.

He showed a lot of traits that make you believe that if he can keep ascending, that he's a candidate.

Uh, Robert Jones is a guy that we've tracked and liked.

... any sort of reaction to that or change?

Now that you've had a little bit of distance between the end of last year and now, what can you say about your team and how they performed last year?

Well, I said it right after this season, now I've had a little time to reflect, probably stronger, and just my admiration for, uh, how they didn't blink.

Uh, we, we faced a lot of adversity in terms of injuries.

Not only injuries, I think sometimes that narrative, how injured we were, kind of middle of the pack in terms of how the league looks at things, but it was our best players in often cases, uh, and a lot of them.

Uh, and that, that's tough because those best players, uh, talk about it a lot, they're force multipliers.

They not only do their job extremely well, they make people around them better.

I think when you're looking at things in a positive lens, I always look is, a lot of people got a lot of valuable experience, and now when you add the Fred Warner's and Nick Boss's, Brock Purdy's back, Ricky Pearsall's back healthy, I think we should be a better team for that, for the experiences.

You, you mentioned Mac Jones in, in the scrum after the podium, and how proud are you of a guy who seemed to really be struggling in another team, another organization, to come and, like, find the joy in football again?

John, is litter picking the best or I suppose the most effective punishment for those caught?

I think it's a great deterrent for people along with fines.

But I think the deeper question, Andrea, is you have to ask, why are people littering on streets and country roads? Now, obviously, people dumping black bags everywhere.

Why are they doing this? Cost of bins is one question to be asked.

But if you look at villages and streets in their own towns and villages and cities in Ireland, there's a complete lack of recycling options on the go.

So if there was more bins on the streets, giving people better recycling options, I think that's going to help as well.

It's going to help in the tourist area.

We've any amount of organizations about this, haven't we? Yeah.

Are coffee cups totally, you know, compostable, John? Because quite a few messages from listeners today saying that there's still that layer of plastic as well inside the cup.

Hi, Andrea.

So, we're We manufacture our cups here in Ireland and we actually work with the Irish Composting Association, it's called CRAE, and we actually have our coffee cups in a large range of packaging approved by the Irish composting industry.

They have their own Irish composting scheme in Ireland which tests all our coffee cups and it basically goes into brown food waste bins and it gets composted in every province in Ireland.

And we've been working with the Irish composting industry since 2013, myself working with them very closely on that.

So to answer your question, all our down-to-earth material cups are actually certified compostable.

They're compostable with Irish composting food waste sites.

around the country.

"... a polymetallic." And then we, and then we sort of looked and said, "Hey, we don't really have the expertise on a polymetallic discovery.

Who does?" And we sourced this guy, and his name is Dr.

Steve Beresford.

He used to be chief geo at First Quantum, and then he was chief geo at First, uh, at MMG, and then he was chief scientific officer at IGO.

So three successive multi-billion dollar success stories.

I reached out to him.

Well, so what's, uh, what's the next milestone for you?

When you're looking at guys to pick them, what is the biggest takeaway? Is it their love of ball? Is it their production? What is your big, uh, like, kind of point of emphasis whenever you're trying to build or add somebody to your culture?

Yeah.

Um, first of all, I'd tell you that, like, in this job, people ask me, you know, "What's your favorite deal?" And I think game day, even though I can't do a damn thing, I just kind of (laughs) say, "Let's go boys.

Um, you know, have at 'em." Um, so I, I love watching our guys compete, but the draft would be second, and I think the reason why, I know the reason why, is because our entire organization comes together for the draft.

And when you're talking, you know, personnel, coaching, R&D, analytics, um, the chefs who are feeding us, like, everybody comes together to...

A- and we all know how important the, uh, the draft, it's the lifeblood of, of your organization, and, uh, you know, so it's, it's really a cool...

And it's a good question, you know, what is the, you know, what is, like, at the top of the, of the list in terms of what is a 49er? Who do we want to be 49ers? It's really interesting, you know, something I f- I find every year, I challenge our R&D guys, our data.

How's his health, uh, going into this year? What have you seen from him? And do you expect to, uh, have the Christian McCaffrey of old back this year?
