Sales and Marketing Alignment Starts Long Before Revenue

But to be aligned is absolutely critical, and if you don't have it, somewhere you honestly need to make a change in your organization, probably at the top, on one side or the other to figure out where that misalignment is.
J
3:50John LambGUEST
Um, I'm very fortunate in the fact that our head of sales happens to be just one of my really close friends, and you know, we didn't know each other prior to this, but we just got on from day one.
J

And it really does help that you personally like the person, you personally respect the person, and you understand that you're each doing your roles.
J
4:08John LambGUEST
Um, but it is so critical to have that alignment because when you think about what it is, if I'm marketing something that is so drastically different than what sales is saying, we have a problem.
J
4:21John LambGUEST
Um, and so it, it, it's a matter of knowing, agreeing on the targets that you're trying to go after because in our world, like I mentioned, there's a lot of different sectors that we focus on, right? Um, or that we touch, I should say.

Steve McDonaldHOST
But are you truly in a customer-obsessed company based on the actions the company takes? And what, what are those kind of actions that help all the way through, you know, the, the success that you've had? How do you connect customer obsession with success of the business?
Sugarbeet nutrient management: Best practices, guidelines & new research for MN growers

And then I know John's done some research in the past too with things other than just liquid separated dairy manure, so maybe he can fill in on that.
J

that. The story about manure, the principles would say that if you have something that's mineralizing late in the season, you might see a quality problem.
J
12:21John LambGUEST
In fact, if anything, when you put it into, i- into the quality-based, uh, payment systems, you might see, uh, two to three ton increase in yield with the use of manure compared to, like, fertilizer, and, uh, the quality does not seem to take the hit that we expected.
J
12:43John LambGUEST
And so I guess if a farmer was to ask me, you know, "Well, what do you do?" And I say, "If you have manure and need to use it, uh, just don't get too wild with the amount that you put on because, uh, maybe it won't hurt you the first time you do it, but if you continue to do it, it will come back." Uh, another interesting thing in the, the manure work that, that I did was is we always took a deep nitrate sample after the study, and the study had, uh, nitrogen urea, uh, put on and incorporated up to 240 pounds of nitrogen, and then we had, uh, some swine manure and some turkey litter put on there.

And at the end of the season, the beet growing season, those nitrates were all the same, and that just tells me that, uh, beets, the roots will take up any nitrate you got sitting there in the soil.
