Currently our driver training school in Templemore and in Dublin are undergoing training from driving instructors in the UK on what's called IPP, initial phase pursuit.

And basically it's where a police car in our country here, a Garda car, would hang back and hang back observing what the vehicle was at.

So it does seem that although Jim O'Callaghan is announcing a new initiative tonight, that it's not actually getting any new resources to match it.

How difficult is it for your members to enforce the law on e-scooters?

The issue our members have, uh, it is very welcome, any new legislation that comes aboard, and we had previous legislation as well, which empowers, uh, uh, members of An Garda Síochána to seize these types of vehicles off the public road and public areas.

But, um, our, the GRA have been on about this for the last couple of years.

Not one member of An Garda Síochána is number one trained in pursuit training, never mind nothing to do with e-scooters, any pursuit training.

So we want training in relation to pursuing these types of vehicles.
