I'm like, I'm really here because I know so many other Jane Does.

I know so many, there's so many of us that are behind the scenes.

I mean, they're all rooting for us because we can speak for them.

And I just think we need to hold space for them as well.

I mean, you know, a lot of Jane Does as well.

We all do.

And we all have a good network where we can all support each other.

And then we would walk down, and some of these hospitals are not even there anymore.

But like NYU was there and still there, and like we went in there, and we would just keep going in the, the emergency looking for her 'cause I guess there were a few John and Jane Does is all I can remember.

And we-- But it was not my sister.

So then we walked back down, and people are still silently walking uptown, and there's...

And yet we are-- have hope.

We do not accept that she is gone yet.

We are hearing rumors and stories that people are being found under the rubble, and we do not know if she is one of the Jane Does at the hospital.

We do not know if she was taken out of the city to a hospital in New Jersey.

And so that's what we're going to do today is take people through what that part looks like.

So I'll just be Joe and John, you know, Joe and Jane or however the people do things today, Jane and Jane, you know, Joe, right?

So what you're seeing here on this page, the green and red lines, and it looks like a broom chart, spaghetti chart.

Actually, I don't even know what you call that chart.

I've heard broom and spaghetti, but the point is each of those lines is a particular starting point in history, okay? So if I go back over here and I look at the number one outcome historically, if today is January 1st, 1979, And all of those assumptions, John and Jane Doe, are invested in intermediate-term and short-term treasuries.

That would have been their outcome.

And he had just learned about this one particular mystery of this, this hit and run.

It was a John Doe that had happened in Washington State.

He'd actually, it was one of the first cases that he had worked on when he became a cop 11 years earlier.

Um, he began investigating it, investigating it because people were, like, talking about it online.

It was this weird thing where nobody ever identified him.

Simultaneously, he saw this, like, news report this cop did about how David Lewis was still missing after 11 years, and the family was giving an interview about David Lewis, and he saw a picture of David Lewis.

And he was like, "Oh my God, I think that's the same guy from the John Doe case.

I think he's the guy who got hit 11 years ago." And so he pulled out the evidence, I suppose.

Dr. Kendrick observed what appeared to be a close-range gunshot wound a quarter way down the back of the decedent's head.

She concluded the cause of death of this John Doe was a gunshot wound to the head and documented that the trajectory indicated the bullet had traveled from the decedent's left to right, front to back, and downwards.

No gun was found, and the gunshot wound was in an unlikely location to be self-inflicted.

This was a homicide in which the victim had been killed anywhere between one and ten years earlier.

Barron County Homicide Detective Jeff Nelson was the lead county sheriff's office detective on the case.

He responded to the scene with the original responding officers, saw the skull, and observed the remainder of the bones in place where they were found.

Barron County authorities checked records of all missing persons cases in the area, including neighboring counties, for the past five years and didn't come up with anyone that matched a description of their John Doe.

But since it was by now 2018, DNA was the go-to tool for human identification.

And so what ended up happening is in 2015, and again, another remarkable aspect of this story, somebody in Canada, the brother of a friend who ended up being a longtime friend of this Jane Doe, happened to be looking through one of these websites.

called Name Us, which is a website for unidentified people and Jane Doe's and John Doe's and saw this photograph.

And he thought, wow, this looks like, you know, a girl that went to school with my sister.

And so he sent the photograph.
