What do you think of this, the key organizational or technological trends that could help build this ecosystem of resilient data?
16:40
This is a really long story.
16:44
I'll keep it short.
16:46
The challenge that we've had since the time I started, I started, I'm a Katrina baby, I started with the response after the hurricane.
16:54
We, in the response to the Haiti earthquake in 2010, realized that there had to be a place where data that we had so fragmented needed to come together into some format that we could all access in a common way.
17:09
Hence, the Center for Humanitarian Data was born with the Humanitarian Data Exchange.
17:13
This is probably the key resource internationally for what we do.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but I will say working at a large corporation, we do use open data, we contribute to open data, and when I talk to industry colleagues at other federal agencies, I've never been a federal employee, I have friends who are, the first question I get wearing my Meta hat is like, oh, that's great you're using our data, how are you using the data? And so I think as a steward of that data, or maybe as a developer user of that data, I think it's also on us to talk about the data, talk about the value we get of the data, and make sure that the folks who are trying to get funding to go out and create more data or refresh that data or make that data more accessible and sustainable are having those stories told.

You are working, and you've got a family, and all of a sudden you find out that Megan and Patrick, your two young children, you get this devastating diagnosis.
5:23
Well, it's something you don't expect.
5:25
And I had just finished graduate school, grew up in New Jersey.
5:28
My dad was a cop here in North Jersey, and kind of have your plan in life.
5:32
And we had our second, then third children very quickly.
5:35
And it was by about a year of age that we noticed Megan wasn't pulling up in the crib, wasn't taking those first steps.
5:41
Incredibly bright little baby.

How? How?
11:26
Do you see that improving at all? And if so, how?
11:30
Yeah, it's a major part of our focus as well.
11:32
You know, I won't go through all the change.
11:34
We've all lived through it last year.
11:35
We all kind of felt better coming out of the summer that there was finally stability.
11:40
We were heading in the right direction.
11:42
and then a whole lot of turmoil in the fall.

John, did you have other comments that you wanted to make, whether it was on MFN or anything we haven't covered?
35:46
Me and another friend of ours used to take a ride on Saturdays.
35:49
Were you, were you there, um, when we wrestled Fort Lee and they had the big riot? I, I think I was, uh, a, a f- a junior or senior, um, when I, uh...
36:03
'Cause, uh, I, I said I was...
36:05
I don't know if you remember.
36:06
Like, w- so the, uh, Fort Lee High School, they brought, um...
36:11
They were our arch rivals, right? So, uh, I, I said w- when I'm, uh, like, they interviewed me 'cause I got, like, athlete of the week or something, right? So I said, "I'm gonna wear, like, an executioner's mask," right? For, for, you know, when we wrestled, right? So then I, I...
36:27
So when we run out to, you know, like, the warm-up-You know, wore the...
38:47
Okay.
5:02
I think your own Sam and I are all very keen to sort of just get your top line thoughts of where we are, what what bio is trying to do in this sort of tumultuous geopolitical environment and how things are going in Washington.
5:18
Yeah, Eric, thank you again for having me on.
5:20
And again, I think pretty timely given given where we are here.
5:24
I thought what I'd do in the upcoming in kind of my upfront comments is just frame it.
5:29
from a big-picture standpoint kind of where we are, why I am optimistic that we are going to have a more favorable policy environment for biotechnology than we've had in some time.
5:40
And I'll give you some specific data points around that.
5:44
I'll also just touch on what the threats are and how we're working through and trying to manage those threats, and then also talk about some specific opportunities.

14 MINS LATER

31:03
So we'd love to hear your thoughts on China in general and any policy related initiatives that you guys are pursuing or that you're aware of.
31:13
Sure, Daphne, I'm happy to comment.
31:15
I think maybe to begin, we can just start with, you know, there is, of course, a broad geopolitical amount of tension and competitiveness between the United States and China.
31:25
And we play into that.
31:26
So our industry isn't unique in this regard.
31:29
And I can tell you in my now nearly a year experience, in washington including my day day one working on the biosecure challenges and opportunities i've not in quite some time if if perhaps ever seen as bipartisan focus on a particular strategic issue and you know the guiding principles are for us in our industry that biotechnology is incredibly important it is a national security asset And you need to care.
31:58
And when I say you, that's from the general public to policymakers, lawmakers.
