Rob, what say ye? Sometimes I wonder if you feel like John Coffey in The Green Mile, that you take on all the problems of the world and you got to deal with it all.

Like, you do it.

A setting that historically offers no hope, only the cold mechanics of state-sanctioned death.

But the rigid equilibrium of The Green Mile is completely shattered by the arrival of a new inmate, John Coffey.

Coffey is an incredibly imposing, massive physical presence, and he's been convicted of the most atrocious crime imaginable, the brutal murder of two young girls.

But the reality of the man sitting in the cell completely contradicts both his conviction and his intimidating stature.

And through that examination, the underlying truth of his legacy becomes incredibly clear.

The essential enduring magic of Stephen King's literature does not rely on the mechanics of the ghosts wandering the halls of the Overlook Hotel

It does not rely on the tragedy of Johnny Smith's precognition or the divine tragedy of John Coffey or the telekinetic wrath of Carrie White

Those elements are merely the tools he uses to excavate the foundation

If you haven't seen it, Tom Hanks plays a guy called Paul Edgecombe, who's a prison guard on the death row during the Great Depression.

And he witnesses supernatural events when a mysterious new prisoner called John Coffey comes to his prison.

Now, I'm not going to spoil it for you.

The film is a bit violent.

There's a lot of positive messages and powerful moments.

And if you haven't seen it, you're really in for a treat.

The director said that the character of John Coffey, and I quote, represents those extraordinary visionary souls that come along in human history from time to time.

that the rest of us feel compelled to exterminate.

Three hours?

It sounds like the, the drink-

this is a nudge, you got a nudge.

It's like a very fucked up reverse John Coffey.

Uh, so I was trying to explain, uh, Roy Orbison to Jude.

I, like I come out of the bedroom that where I've been watching, uh, Castle Rock to go watch interview.

And more importantly, those tiny moments of humanity and cruelty are what ground the supernatural elements.

If you buy the reality of the guards eating cornbread, you buy the reality of John Coffey having magical healing powers.

But even with over three hours to play with, Darabont still had to make a few deviations.

Even with three hours, things changed.

Which is incredibly smart screenwriting.

If you introduce a brand new hateful antagonist in the last 20 minutes of a three hour movie, you completely derail the emotional climax.

The audience is mourning John Coffey.

They don't have the energy to hate a new character.

He left the movie.

He's like, if John Coffey gets it, I'm out.

And we all sat on the couch crying.

And he fucking ran upstairs.

And at the end, when Tom Hanks is like...

If you want me to help you break you out of here, tell me.

He's like, how am I going to look my God in the eyes when I die and tell him I killed one of his miracles? And John Coffey's like, I'm just fucking tired of the meanness.

It really is.

Obviously, draw to Kevin, they won the Cup a couple of years ago, but I think we've praised John Coffey.

They've done a great job as well this season.

Even just eking out that one-all draw the other night against Shelburne, I think John has always kind of... just they fight that's the difference they fight no matter what they're fighting for their lives every point matters and I and I like that you know what I mean and he has that passion John Coffey he's always had both as a player as a manager and that's so important if you don't have that you can forget about it but Stephen Walsh as well I want him I mentioned a lot of people this weekend Raph but I think he got some it's 400 appearances I think and they gave him a bit of a kind of tribute to him before the match or after the match And again, players like that, you know what it means to fellas like that, like the service that they give to a team.

So I don't know.

I think that's going to be really tough.
