52:43
Why do you believe this intervention is so critical at this time?
52:48
Well, first of all, let me applaud the government and for that matter, GRA for this very decisive action, a very timely action, but it is long overdue because we are in the business and we know exactly what happens and we are partners in development.
53:11
in a situation where we find out that people are engaged in an activity that is not in the benefit of the country, we would have to raise the alarm and then direct policymakers to be able to tailor policy towards those directions.
53:27
And so for over the years, I have always advocated and called for policies that will combat smuggling, policies that will ensure that the government of the day brings in the needed tax revenue for economic development.
53:46
So the implementation of this ban on transit goods is a very, very decisive, very great decision.
53:56
And we think that If it is handled very well over a period of three to six months, they will see revenue increasing from the import side because we have information and we have been fairly aware whereby a lot of people direct their goods to Aflavo.
54:16
In these ship loads, they offload their goods in Aflavo and then go ahead to load them in trucks in the name of transit, in the name of bringing them even to Ghana.
57:28
going to try to ask you, couldn't we risk issues with supply and prices if we enforce stricter border controls?
65:56
Why do you believe this intervention is so critical at this time?
66:01
Well, I, um-- First of all, let me applaud the government and for that matter GRA for this very decisive action, a very timely action, but it is long overdue because we are in the business and we know exactly what happens, and we are partners in development.
66:22
So in, in, in institution where we find out that people are engaging in activity that does not inure to the benefit of the country, we would have to, uh, raise the alarm and then, uh, direct policy makers to be able to, uh, steer the policy towards those directions.
66:40
And so for over the years, I have always, uh, advocated and called for, uh, policies that will combat smuggling, policies that will ensure that the government of the day, uh, brings in the needed tax revenue for economic development.
66:59
So the implementation of this, uh, trans-- ban on transit goods is a very, very decisive, a very great, uh, decision.
67:09
And we think that if it is handled very well over a period of three to six months, they will see Revenue increasing from the import side because we have information and we have been fairly aware whereby a lot people divert their goods to Aflao, indeed shiploads.
67:30
They offload their goods in Aflao and then go ahead to, uh, uh, load them in trucks in the name of transit, in the name of, uh, uh, bringing them to even to Ghana.

88:22
Why do you believe this intervention is so critical at this time?
39:34
Now, Mr. Awuni, what is your immediate reaction to the outcome of the meeting with government for which the strike is being called off?
39:44
Thank you so much.
39:45
Let me say that I didn't go in there as a chairman of the British Association.
39:52
We went into a meeting as a group and I led the group assisted by the British president.
39:58
And so what my colleague Michael has outlined is what we all went in and what I led the group for us to be able to achieve.
40:08
And so that is what Michael has outlined, that they will organize a committee for us to be part of Effective Monday.
40:16
And that they will indeed, we have even forwarded the names to the GRU commissioner.
43:58
Now, I want to get from you, does this outcome restore confidence between the business community and government, or are there still lingering concerns that you believe should be addressed apart from the... for the removal or the horten and implementation of the Pelican AI?

So how is the mandatory local cargo insurance policy affecting the cost of importing food and beverage products for your members? You're muted.
22:47
Good afternoon.
22:48
And thank you very much for your good question.
22:50
Good afternoon to your viewers.
22:54
On the surface, I would say that this policy looks good for the economy and to strengthen the insurance sector in Ghana.
23:05
But technically, it's going to be a very difficult thing to work with.
23:10
It is required that the Finance Minister call this thing back, let them suspend it, and engage the crew so that they will be able to understand the technicalities of enforcing and implementing this particular directive.
