So to get all of those experiences from as many councils as possible just gives us the best kind of data to work with.
16:42
If I could chip in there too, Chris, the VLJ is the body that advocates for council laws.
16:47
It's a local government advocacy movement as well, but as a body it's for the council laws themselves and you know, they know, I mean, I did the job a very long time ago, they know that there's a sort of a unique proposition there that involves them not getting paid very much to do a huge amount of work and among other things, but just for the VLGA to be able to track and keep that data over the years and then use that as an effective sort of lobbying tool to get the sort of legislative changes that's required or even just sometimes just funding and structural changes that can be done at the department.
17:19
I think that's a really valuable tool to have that voice of the councillor who is usually the voice of their residents and not sort of pushing their own barrow.
17:28
Well, this is your chance to get in and say what is important to you and the VLGA can go into bed for you.
19:06
Is there anything that sort of stands out as being different about the way you approach this particular piece of research?
19:12
Probably the way we approach it is a bit different is probably confidentiality.
19:16
So if you get a survey of the general public, the chances of them being identifiable by their age or gender or location or ethnicity is sort of infinitesimally tiny.
10:42
And I
10:44
think although there's a lot of very good work from the sales side concentrated in individual firms and a lot of very good work, I think too many of the sort of leading analysts' models are for juniors.
11:03
And I think there is fine art to modeling, which is about the right sort of detail, but not too much of it.
11:09
Tell me about it.
11:10
Well, if you have too much detail, garbage in, garbage out.
11:15
Too much detail, minor changes of assumptions, everything goes haywire.
11:20
When you're forecasting how a company will do, you need to be able to isolate what are the absolute key factors and focus on them and apply a qualitative lens to that.

I just want to, yeah, I want to get your thoughts on, on, on, on Will Marshall's analysis of what's going on in US politics and the impact that it can
25:24
have.
25:25
Right.
25:26
And I've probably been guilty of it myself because it is very tempting to say that, for example, our property system is rigged against young people.
25:33
It sort of is.
25:34
I think the problem with the word rigged is it, it says that the system is that people are cheating the system in a sense.
25:43
And You know, when Trump talks about rigged elections, then he says that democracy doesn't work.

I don't know that Andy Burnham just won the – won the um his by-election again in in a tight contest against reform so it was a great result for labor there but um broadly speaking people haven't been able to land a glove on nigel farage uh the democrats struggled with trump as well you know there is an authenticity to some of these kind of leaders that just have folks thinking that they're they are caring or they are competent or whatever we think that you know
