well first talk about motivation when we talk about motivation can you talk about why we sometimes see people and leaders fail to motivate their team when they use their own logic and values and their own perspective to try to motivate people instead of what's important to others

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
i can make this a really quick answer because you just said it in your intro which is their own logic and values and that's the biggest challenge is you're in your own way because Most of the time when people are communicating, they're stuck because they think, why can't they think the way I think? Why don't they get it? I thought I was being crystal clear.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
If I'm a logical thinker and I speak really fast and I make decisions really quickly as a leader, but the person with me is more amiable, more team player, more deliberate in how they speak and how they think I get frustrated as a leader, as opposed to, ah, maybe I should just slow down my rate of speech and maybe I should build a better rapport with them.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
Maybe ask how their weekend was or some way to make it more emotional and not just facts driven.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
And also the other thing about leaders is often people became leaders because they were self-driven because they were self-motivated.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
And that's also another frustration for them when people maybe don't have those natural abilities or natural inclinations to be self-driven and they can't wrap their head around it.

Josh SeldinHOST
And when it's not, how does somebody pause and do that mindset shift to go, okay, rather than force this view of motivation that's not happening, I'm going to ask these curious questions to understand what really motivates Joel.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
Well, and that's one of the reasons why I did create the MOVE model was I'm noticing, oh, people like acronyms.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
It really, you could talk about it all you want, but people need an acronym.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
And this MOVE just came out perfectly because in my former life, just like, you know, your former life, you were a for scenic investigator.

Joel SilverstoneGUEST
And from the acting world, I took this word of move because an actor's job is not to learn the lines or memorize the lines or to act.

What are some of the clues that you try to get them to hone in on during their conversations?
