And I know you love your metrics, so I think you're going to like this bit, but tell us about what metrics you monitor on a weekly, monthly basis in the business and why.

Yeah, so I probably get a bit obsessed with it all, but I think it's sort of in relation to the stress of running a business the stress of having such a massive overhead that we've got and I sort of really need to know sometimes day to day that you know money's coming in bookings are still coming in and it's sort of it's difficult to lose sight of a lot of stuff when you know you're busy all day long and you just want to put your finger on a piece of information like you know particularly with a campsite because there's so many bookings coming you know there's hundreds of bookings coming you know are we ahead of last year you know is august this year the same as august last year how long is it taking for people to book because like with camping the weather has a lot of effect on it each year is different um so i monitor so much stuff but but The difficulty with like our booking system and stuff and I don't know how it is for other people is there's loads of data in it but it doesn't present it very well and nor does it sort of let you make any decisions from it and you can go on to it and you can spend a lot of time downloading the raw data, processing it all into a way that makes sense to you.

And it was sort of born of that repeating, repeating, repeating the same thing over and over again, daily, weekly, or whenever I was doing it.

And I spent a lot of time building up sort of little dashboards on Excel and different programs to try and make my life easier.
J

And I ended up building this sort of massive live dashboard thing that imports data from everywhere.

We sell a, a tremendous amater, uh, amount of used cars, and if you're ever looking to buy a car, go to bcautoplex.com. B as in boy, C as in Charlie, charlieautoplex.com. We have, uh, usually 2,000 to 2,500 used cars all the time, and we have about 2,000 new cars all the time.

You know, I had somebody from, uh, Tupelo call me this week, and, uh, they, he had a relative in Atlanta, and he says, "Joe, uh, this, uh, this friend of mine," or k- it might have been a, a relative, "he trying to buy a Tucson in Atlanta, and they're having a hard time on pricing." And I said, "Well, that's, that's not a problem at all." [laughs] So-
A wrinkle in time: GPS jamming in Ukraine

[satellites transmitting] They tell us things like latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, bearing, and even keep perfect time, which is what the guys from Ukrenergo were focused on.

on.You know, power is, is you know, this invisible thing to all of us, right? We just turn the lights on and they come on and we watch our TVs.
J

But the infrastructure that's, that's created to make that happen is an incredibly complex ballet of producing the power, regulating the power to an acceptable voltage, and then getting it to your home, you know, for you to enjoy civilization.
18:55
They used it to synchronize very complex operations throughout the network just by timestamping everything.
J
19:02Joe MarshallGUEST
Timestamping everything exactly accurate to everything else that we're measuring at the exact same time over tremendous distances.

The Ukrainian transmission grid alone, which is different from like what you would get to your house, that's what we call distribution, the Ukrainian transmission grid alone was 25,000 kilometers long.
