So, um, Russia introduced, you know, former Soviet Union, then Russia introduced pink salmon to the White Sea area, which is the part of Russia next to the top of Norway.

Um- At first, they were using salmon from a relatively southerly population from Sakhalin Island, which is the long, skinny island just north of Hokkaido, Japan.

Um, trying to put, so something like 48-something degrees north latitude, 40-something, I don't remember the exact, and putting them in way up in, you know, basically the Russian Arctic.

They put in a lot of effort releasing millions and millions of juveniles, and they couldn't get natural reproduction self-sustaining.

So they stopped that around 1980 or so, and then they switched to sourcing pink salmon from the River Ola, which is in the northern Sea of Okhotsk, so a much more northerly population, around 60 degrees north latitude, something way closer, right? And those started naturally reproducing almost right away.

Wow.
