How do you take somebody that's advanced in one modality primarily and make them more multifaceted?
43:32
Yeah, that's, um...
43:34
It, it...
43:35
A lot went into it, but I, I give credit to him first because he was open-minded enough to know, listen, to your point, what he did worked for what the goal was: be as jacked as humanly possible, look like, like a, a real-life superhero, and he did for, for years and years.
43:57
But his body started breaking down, and once he hit 40, still trying to wrestle at a high level, as you know, with the travel on top of it makes things so much more difficult.
44:08
It was one injury after another, and he noticed, like, doing less to get more...
44:15
Like, you're, you're getting injured doing things that you would have never gotten injured doing in your 20s and 30s.

Are you gonna look at, kind of just in general, 'cause I know everybody's different, but are you gonna look at certain days being more catered to explosive strength, some days being more of your lighter, more metabolic or mobility-based work? How do we start to transition somebody into that in a general sense?
5:52
But even still, how do you focus on building, earning, and maintaining trust with the people you work with, whether it's an elite performer or an everyday person?
6:00
Yeah, I think the personal side of personal training doesn't get talked about enough.
6:06
And that is why one of the major reasons I think I'm still working with Paul and Steph were going on year 16 from when I got the initial call.
6:16
And it was originally meant to be, hey, I just had another surgery, just getting cleared from shoulder surgery.
6:23
Can you help me, you know? recover from this and then i know you live in new jersey i'll move on and you know what turned out to be like a month-long uh relationship now is is year 16 but you know that trust comes with it it takes a little bit of time yes i had a lot of information that i that i had posted online and and he did his research on me first And one of the things, I always found it interesting, besides the information that he found helpful, some of the, there was like Ask Joe blogs and Q&As that I've done and YouTube videos that I had posted and advice I gave that he tried and it worked well for him.
7:04
So that was a big factor.
7:06
But the thing that got him to call me and our first meeting, he invited me to his house.

39:37
And if we can find common ground to talk about that, it makes the time pass.
33:29
crossfit gyms boxes in the garage yeah lift up the doors normal no no no no take us back to the very beginning of how defranco's gym actually started and then kind of how now where the world is today as you look back
33:43
yeah it's funny because it's just i guess it's taken for granted but there were there were not the the pre-c speed school which was a a The spot, I always give Bill credit, Bill Preecy, the owner, that was like the mega speed agility quickness center, multimillion dollar facility when the flagship facility, which is still in Fairlawn, New Jersey, that's the last spot I worked before I started my own spot.
34:11
And so when I left, I had worked there for five years and we had some differences.
34:17
It was time for me to move on.
34:19
And- you know i didn't and i'm not throwing shade but you don't as you know you don't make a ton of money in this industry even though i was working with pro athletes i'm getting paid as a trainer i'm doing fine i i got my own apartment i got a nice truck but not enough to like invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a beautiful facility so and i don't come from money you know my dad was a police officer my mom was a teacher and then she got ms and and had to retire early so I didn't, I didn't have, I don't come from money.
34:50
So I need, I, again, going back to, I know what I'm passionate about.
34:55
I literally, there's nothing else in the world I could do as a profession.

And at the end, you know, we're going to point everybody more towards your product where they can go learn more, but kind of give us the overview here.
