Well, I saw on your website that you dance everywhere.
4:57
Yes.
4:58
I got a sour news a couple of years back that I had breast cancer.
5:03
After feeling the hit of that fully, I was dancing at home with my children because that's what we do every morning.
5:10
We've always turned on the music and danced.
5:13
I was getting ready to go to radiation as I was doing it every day for a month.
5:17
And as I was dancing and getting in the shower, I just looked at myself in the mirror as I was just going into the shower and noticed the paradox of like, oh, I'm a cancer patient and I'm dancing in my shower.

8 MINS LATER

13:46
and so i had to really kind of recondition myself for that and i do believe in many instances when i finally learned to trust that again it saved my life and it wasn't really about fear it was about trusting the knowing like what's in us and so i'm so intrigued by you talking about that that we are the experts on us not you
5:38
Hmm.
5:38
And that caught my systemics attention.
5:41
I was like, how interesting.
5:42
Why is that? Why is...
5:44
And it felt like this is the only profession where I'm noticing such a passion and yet such a contraction when the opportunity shows up.
5:57
And so my systemic lens came back and I started to dive into- Research on myself and on the people around me to really m- explore what was happening in the moment of actually being seen.
6:13
And, and people have the same in public speaking.

32 MINS LATER

37:59
What inspired you to do that?
21:19
[instrumental music] What would you like to see change in policy or funding to better enable shared decision-making?
21:27
I think it's about putting the stuff into the beginning rather than letting it wait.
21:44
It's more about services addressing the root causes rather than the symptoms.
21:48
So there's a, um, a really good book, uh, audiobook that I listen to on a regular basis, and that's like my go-to type book called Upstream by Dan Heath.
21:57
It's about the systems work, so, you know, how do we stop the stuff downstream from coming all the time? Be- the only way we do that is if we look at what's upstream.
22:08
So, you know, that's the work that we do.
22:10
And in that systems change, in that shared decision-making space, it's how do we collaborate together effectively and efficiently so that we're not continuing to working in the downstream space? It's a lot easier to work in the upstream space because we don't have to deal with the issues 'cause we're already at, we're dealing with the causes of it, and we're not...
22:33
You know, it's that layering back of the onion.
12:10
you?"What might accountability look like from, from your perspective in an ideal world? Is it getting the children in there in this context to sort of represent their perspectives and, you know, saying to the council, "Look, these are the children you want to engage with, and they're telling you exactly what they want," and it's not being delivered in that way?
12:28
That accountability is about how then does council make that decision on behalf of young people who aren't 18, and how do they take their conversation serious if they're not even having a conversation or engaging with them in the first instance? So that's on, that's on our cards to, to work in, in the next few weeks, and then we will collectively get young people who are part of the design work from the last 10 months of work to come back together to look at and then identify some, some representatives from that space to then talk about it.
13:05
'Cause one of the things that they did say as the buckets of work is they wanna talk with local government.
13:11
They wanna go and visit state government, um, and Parliament House and in Sydney and down in Canberra.
13:17
So it's about opening the doors so that they can see how decision-making is really made with the idea of, of setting up some kind of youth voice in our community.
13:26
[gentle music] Sort of opening the door so they can walk through it.
13:30
Yeah.
13:30
Yeah.
