And I, uh, came back, and I was sort of blended whether I was going to join the Navy or go on back to my mother and dad's restaurant business or what to do.

So I had a friend that was working in the shoe business, and he told me about the Bata Shoe Company, had a recruitment for manager trainers.

And, uh, I contacted them, and I, uh, joined the Bata Shoe Company in Toronto.

And, uh, s- after gaining some, uh, retail experience, I then went to their factory located in Batawa, which is about two hours, uh, east of, uh, Toronto, for those who are not familiar with Batawa.

Bata was a Bata shoe town, actually.

Uh, came to Canada from Czechoslovakia in 1939 and, uh, left just before the Germans came and took over the plants in Czechoslovakia.
