What does this film say about organized labor in the US more, more generally about the conjuncture that it finds itself in and, and possible paths forward?
20:57
I think the, the thing that I take away the most out of it is how ordinary and everyday the fight was, right? It's, the people involved were not specialists.
21:07
They weren't, you know, like, super labor head folks.
21:12
They were everyday workers who showed up and had conversations and talked to their coworkers.
21:18
And I think that that's, you know, that that's the thing you should really take away from the film, is that the largest forces in world history can be humbled by everyday people talking to each other.
21:32
Um, and that, you know, all that's really necessary to take on some of these forces is, uh, talking to your neighbors and getting on board and, you know, expressing solidarity with one another.
21:44
I see that every single time I think of those scenes in San Marcos in that coffee shop, of, of just those guys getting together and organizing strike force and, you know, doing something that their local union should have been doing but wasn't.

Why is that, and how do you see your own work in general and this, this film in particular fitting into, to that?
29:31
[laughs]
29:32
Just like try, trying to explain, uh, you know, the, the groundwork beef to my mom.
29:37
Like, you know, [laughs] it's like, no, like people...
29:39
What is most important about what's happening here is getting people to understand that there is a contract, uh, that is ending that could potentially lead to a strike and, you know, uh, a TA has to be voted on by the membership, right? I, I think the film is pretty sparing with the text on screen.
29:57
Uh, it really tries to let the scenes do most of the talking and the explanation.
30:03
Um, but you know, you're, you're filming forever.
30:05
You've got all this footage, and you really need to bring order out of chaos.
