Um, so there was a salmon, some say his name was Fintan, and he was swimming in a river.

Jennifer CollinsGUEST
I think it was the Boyne River, but, um, he, uh, was, had all the knowledge in the world.

Jennifer CollinsGUEST
And then one day he was caught by this poet called Finegas, who wanted to have all the knowledge in the world, and the p- person who took the first bite from the salmon would gain all that knowledge.

Jennifer CollinsGUEST
So he had an apprentice there, uh, Fionn McCool, who was really, like he's really famous in Irish mythology as a warrior.

Jennifer CollinsGUEST
But Fionn, um, he was like, "Fionn, you look after that salmon there while it's cooking, but whatever you do, do not eat the salmon." And, uh, the salmon got a bit of a blister on its skin as it was cooking, so he just burst the blister, and then he s- put, 'cause his thumb burnt, he put it in his mouth, and he got all of the knowledge from the salmon.
