What do small business owners need to understand about showing up in an AI search as opposed to the traditional Google or other search bot engines that we've been used to for many, many years now?

Jen McFarlandGUEST
Yeah, you know, it's so interesting because they're actually at this point, and it's something that's probably going to change.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
It's very consistent, like what it is that works in Google also works when it comes to ChatGPT or Cloud or whatever.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
They're just showing you all the books, you know, and AI is giving you very specific answers based on exactly what you've asked for.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
So what does that mean? It means that you need to spend time answering direct customer questions and be thinking about things in terms of questions and answers.

Paul WrightHOST
How important is ethical marketing when you're out there trying to market your service, your business, your retail outlet? What's your thoughts on that?

At some point, we were in our houses and one of us contacted the other one over email to like... be on this podcast and like it's so improbable that like that series of events happened but like we both were on the same platform we both were on pod match so like it's a good bet that like because we were both on pod match at some point we would find each other but like that's certainly not guaranteed but we put ourselves in the position to do this thing and then like the chaotic result happened, which wouldn't have happened if we weren't both on that platform.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
I was thinking about the box scenario and I'm like, oh God, can I just have a condo where I go to different rooms? Do I have to be in one box? And I think that it's true though, if you're creating a community, you are creating a container.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
And then inside that container you can play and whatever happens inside that container is really where the magic happens.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
I think for most people, I have a community, a membership that people can join.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
And like, we have a lot of fun in there and it's definitely not for everybody, but for the people who it is for, they stay for a long time.

Yeah, so it's basically like a small group coaching program in a way because we meet weekly, but what we do is different every week.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
So it's one week is an ask me anything and it's recorded and we put that in there.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
The curriculum that we're working through this year is around the customer journey.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
So every month we've been going through different stages of customer journey.

Jen McFarlandGUEST
After that, there's a session that's like co-working and accountability so they can work on their marketing assets.

The reason you're like, oh, I'd rather do coaching and membership is because you're doing all the work on the fractional side.
