Jem BendellGUEST
Yeah, so my approach to the research was not just to find out what was the consensus on any particular part of understanding the climate.

Jem BendellGUEST
So what's the consensus on glacier retreat or the dynamics between forests and clouds, the sensitivity to CO2? What I was interested in was what is most salient for understanding climate how fast climate change will occur.

Jem BendellGUEST
So coming as an outsider who knows how to read that science, who's trained in methodology, but not within that field, I was just looking and thinking, okay, there's a lot of work here, but how relevant is that to understanding? And so that was the way I approached it.

Jem BendellGUEST
I mean, I knew from my geography degree when I did a paper on oceanography, a module on oceanography, that the oceans, like we call it planet Earth, but rather than planet ocean, but really over half, was it 70% of the surface is oceans and nearly half of the surface is just one ocean, the Pacific Ocean.

Jem BendellGUEST
So what happens in the Pacific Ocean is known to change A couple of top oceanographers looking at the Pacific, looking at what was happening with the amount of energy being trapped in the world's oceans, predicted that we might go over 1.5 degrees Celsius by around 2025.

And they also then attacked the character of the people involved and our motivations.

Jem BendellGUEST
And so, yeah, I don't wish to blame, so I don't wish to talk about the individuals, but there are really some important things here to look at.

Jem BendellGUEST
So I would say, I mean, that term refers to the IPCC and the scientists who then would contribute to that and would be most quoted about what is consensus climatology.

Jem BendellGUEST
So those people were mostly publicly against alarming readings like mine eight years ago, not because of complacency, not because of conspiracy, not because of corruption, not because of stupidity, none of that.

in the vein of what can we do and maybe even just from if you'll start with the big picture and then maybe even down to what you were talking about nurturing life as an individual like through permaculture because you're intimately involved in that too so maybe if you could give us a big picture and then bring it down to what each of us can do in our own backyards
