... what ideas or questions are you hoping to leave with attendees as they experience your opening session?
8:34
You know, it's interesting because, you know, I've done many talks before, and, and it's different 'cause these talks are usually about you, about the practice and about the studio.
8:42
And you go, you would go through like, okay, here is a process of an idea, and here's what a, a site analysis and, and what are the concepts related to that.
8:49
In this case it was really about approaching it almost like a TED Talk.
8:53
It's sharing sort of these moments that have shaped your career as a, a designer, um, and then showing examples of those projects that have sort of supported those things.
9:03
And without getting too much into it, I mean, how I became an artist, how I changed from becoming a landscape architect or designer to becoming a full-time artist is 'cause at, uh, 35 years old I had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery.
9:15
I cashed out my 401[k], went to the office principals at Glading Jackson and said, "I'm, I'm gonna retire, cash out my 401[k], and just be an artist." And I was like, "Well, how am I gonna be an artist?" So it's, it was really about me then actually, uh, working on design competitions, which is what as architects we've, uh, done many times is, is get involved in design competitions.
