8:20
But wha- what's the balance between flying skills versus teaching skills?
8:26
I think the easiest way to illustrate that is if, if all of us think back to the flight instructors who influenced us a lot, I would challenge anyone to think back, like, how often did your instructor that you thought was that really, really great instructor ever take the controls? Maybe very occasionally in the beginning of your training.
8:44
But it's not about showing someone else that you're capable of doing something, it's really getting into that teacher mindset, I think is where we fail as an industry just overall.
8:57
Because our, our focus in how we train flight instructors, how we train the trainers from a industry-wide standpoint, is that we're so focused on them just being able to demonstrate this really, really high level of knowledge.
9:12
Um, and not that that's wrong inherently, but I don't think we really spend a lot of time on the teaching aspect of it.
9:20
You know, to your point about the FOIs, I think the reality in the industry is that it's a, it's just another thing that we have to do to get where we want to go versus something that people really take to heart as something they're gonna apply in their day-to-day when all of it is hugely important.
9:38
You know, I think, I think we see a lot of instructors, I know me and you have, who it's clear that they have that knowledge, but it's really difficult for them to get that out to somebody who is truly a day-one student.

22 MINS LATER

31:38
Jay, I'm interested in hearing wh- where this comes into your outline for tonight, and where you think managing a student's progress and accountability sticks for you over the past couple years at United Flight Systems.

21:55
Oh.
21:55
In that tiny window.
21:58
So that kind of like infuriated me even more because again, like I'm seeing, you know, I'm, I'm not thinking coherently.
22:05
I'm literally fuming.
22:06
Like I'm completely overtaken with a spirit of rage and I'm just like, "No, like these, these people have to die." So that situation happens.
22:13
Now here's the craziest part.
22:15
That same exact night, this is a Friday night, that same exact night I was supposed to be at my church.

23 MINS LATER

45:10
Mm-hmm.
3:06
Are we seeing an, uh, an increase in activity there as far as the LNG, you know, uh, export facilities as Trump has come into office or even since the Iran war?
3:16
Yeah.
3:17
I mean, for sure, you know, the, with Trump in office, there's been, I think, a streamlining in the regulatory process.
3:24
Um, so it's been easier, I think, for companies, um, to push ahead and, and kind of reach FID given the, the change in, you know, in infrastructure permitting.
3:33
And so there's...
3:34
And, and, and I think that really kind of accelerated once the, you know, the war in Iran started.
3:40
There's been growing interest in kind of, like you said, resilience and redundancy.

6 MINS LATER

9:31
Mm-hmm.
18:08
Jay, talk through us, talk us through what we do now that we've had the disapproval.
18:16
Absolutely.
18:17
And so to me, it's all about, okay, we've had, what is a bad day? How do we not turn it into a worse day than it needs to be? And to me, the first real step there is really taking to heart and having a good professional debrief with the DPE.
18:33
And really a good debrief consists of a few things.
18:36
I would say, if at all possible, have your instructor present in that debrief.
18:41
Most DPEs, I know Wally certainly is, and most of the other DPEs that we work with on a regular basis, not only allow, but encourage the instructor to be present during that debrief so that they get all the same information that you do and have all the context that you have.
18:56
And then really beyond that, it's making sure that you do not leave that room confused, not understanding what your disapproval is for.

9 MINS LATER

27:57
So once I have regrouped and I've confessed, I've corrected, I'm ready to conquer, Jay, where do we go from here?
