110:12
Bait, probably.
110:13
Yes, salmon, salmon roe.
110:15
Salmon roe has been good.
110:18
You know, we're just kind of bouncing around, too, fishing the tides.
110:22
We are staying really close to the harbor.
110:24
I mean, so close to the harbor, I think I could cast into the slip at times right in front of the stacks.
110:30
The tides are kind of small in the afternoon, so we're fishing real deep.
111:15
And what's the biggest one you've got so far this year?
111:15
And what are you going to be targeting next?
111:18
Yeah, this is a very short season for us, and then we're going to be moving the boat back to Bodega Bay, where we'll be running our crab-rock cod combos starting November 7th, and we're going to stay running those trips all the way through mid-December.
111:30
There's a really high interest for that right now, so we're going to continue doing that, and like I say, that is our next target season, as everyone is very highly anticipating the delicious crab, and rock high combos.
111:47
And I didn't realize it was that popular.
111:49
So I started doing it and judging by our calendar, I could tell it's going to be, uh, it's going to be pretty, uh, pretty intense a month for us over there.
113:00
Captain, give them all the hookup info they need so they can get out there and share in it.
113:04
Yeah, give us a call, please.
113:05
Area code 916-417-5670 and on the web at Right Hook Sport Fishing.
20:39
Captain Lopes, is it worth, is it worth the run, Captain?
20:43
Oh, 100% worth the run.
20:44
And, uh, you know, like I say, it, and it really isn't that far.
20:48
I mean, it's only an hour and a half from Bodega Bay, and that's including going through the bay, which was foggy that day.
20:55
If you have good weather and you can make 20 knots, it's an hour run from the head.
20:59
It's nothing.
21:00
It's a chip shot, and I highly recommend everyone, uh, trying it.
22:12
And maybe they'll just bounce you around into different closed zones around there and keep that a fantastic fishery forever.
106:07
they got bait pushed up against the shore?
106:10
Absolutely.
106:10
Absolutely.
106:11
These fish are in a structure.
106:12
They have been the last, say, like three or four weeks.
106:15
We're not really catching anything in the deeper water.
106:17
Everything has been close to rocks.
106:47
Well, you're going to be moving up to Bodega Bay, putting your boat up there for a while now?
106:19
What are your expectations? What's going to happen on the Sacramento River as well as the feather in the next few weeks?
106:25
Oh, man, these guys are going to see a huge push.
106:27
They already started seeing it.
106:28
Last week, I know Ria Vista was on fire, and we haven't seen fishing like that in that area in a really long time, so that's huge.
106:35
I know they're getting them down at Benicia.
106:37
They're starting to catch some in Metro.
106:39
We know that there's guys keeping it quiet, but you know, up in the Chico area, they're having really, really good success.
107:51
Absolutely,
65:37
Jay, what's been your experience out there banging these fish?
65:41
This week, we're experiencing the main run of the salmon season right now.
65:48
This is it.
65:49
This is what we've been waiting on.
65:51
It's been really, really good fishing for the most part.
65:55
I mean, we've seen some really good fishing all season.
66:00
But this year, what I call the best fishing with the size.
68:08
like we do every year, and we're going to wear them out in a
103:36
You know, you should be able to, uh, you know, get most of the, most of your season in.
103:41
Hopefully that's the plan.
103:42
You know, this whole, this whole quote of things all new to everyone in the industry.
103:45
And this is something we're going to have to live with for a really long time.
103:48
I don't think we're ever going to see a full season until the returns really come back to where they were.
103:54
So this whole quota thing is going to be what we're stuck with for a while.
103:58
But it's okay.
104:43
So some of those fish are getting a break with salmon, aren't they? I mean, we talked about it with James last week that some of those fish in the ocean that have been the main focus because we haven't had salmon get a little bit of break this summer.
62:10
What stretch of the water are you on right now?
62:14
Right now we're just off Stinson Beach, Duxbury Bowie.
62:17
These fish just found this stuff about three days ago.
62:21
We were up here earlier in the week, and it looked incredible.
62:25
We gave it a try, no bites, and it was just a matter of time before they found it, and they did.
62:30
There's just these fish coming down from Bodega.
62:33
The fish have been anywhere from Stinson Beach, Duxbury here, on up to Arch Rock, which is the lower end of Drake's Bay, and we had some really stellar fishing just four or five, actually five miles straight out of the bridge at the end of the shipping channels.
65:22
Is it going to be less up there or more up there?
65:48
And the salmon probably already know that the bait's coming down our way too, don't you think?
65:53
Absolutely.
65:54
There's enough feed around here.
65:56
One thing we're still waiting on is that big, you know, the big biomass.
66:00
What we've been seeing, and we've been seeing this since it opened up in June, is we're seeing these little groups of fish come through and I would say the school that we had earlier in the week was the first sign of, you know, of migration just because the fish were bigger.
66:14
They were all of the same size.
66:16
They were all 12 to 25 pounds.
67:32
When are you going to make your move and take the boat up to Bodega Bay?
5:47
yeah alan's really just not working you didn't come in today i know i was gonna stay home if he came in i'd stay home yeah no we we need you in here phone but we need mr lopes too captain why aren't you out today is it really blowing out there today
6:03
no it really it's blowing it's blowing we fished uh the other day and uh it was uh It wasn't dialed all week, actually.
6:10
It started off the beginning of the week.
6:11
We had the bottom end of that hurricane that came through, and we had a lot of south wind.
6:16
And it really made for the last day of the salmon season very unpleasant, I should say.
6:24
But we got through that, and then some northwest wind followed behind it.
6:27
It was about 15, 20 knots.

7 MINS LATER

13:42
Now they're not into action?
Marilyn HendricksonCORRESPONDENT
65:32
Sure.
65:32
We had fish, uh, probably 20 pounds this week spawned out.
65:36
So, um, it, it's been really good fishing.
65:38
I mean, like I say, the halibut, they're just...
65:41
They get really picky when the tides get big.
65:43
They kinda just bury themself in the mud.
65:45
Their bite windows are really small.
66:23
When can they get back on there, and when do you think it's gonna be where it should be?
67:40
[laughs]
67:41
Um, but, uh, yeah.
67:42
So we're fishing the central bay.
67:43
There was some fish caught at Alcatraz yesterday.
67:45
There's some fish on the Berkeley Flats.
67:47
Um, there's some fish, uh, Sausalito.
67:49
Um, we're fishing, uh, stripers here and with a chance of the halibut here this morning at Sausalito.
68:25
Well, bait's coming
