Jawbreaker was the book in 2001 that told the story of the election.

I mean, the invasion of Afghanistan.

It was published in 2005, 2006.

The through line in all of that stuff is that all of the vocalists of those major bands, like The Promise Ring, Joan of Arc, Cap'n Jazz, even Blake from Jawbreaker in Jets to Brazil, all of those dudes were guys with incredibly unique vocal approaches, none of which were sort of like traditionally good sing-songy voices.

And that was one of the things that I think really made those bands stand out for me personally, Is it ran the gamut from like a really gravelly sort of very non-traditionally good voice like Blake Schwarzenbach to like just the straight up like babbling of what's his fucking the Kinsella brother that sang for Cap'n Jazz who sounded just like a babbling lunatic.

And in every instance, they also sounded like crying wimps.

And while we're not mathematicians, the sum of the scores for Practical Magic, Jawbreaker, and True Beverly Hills do not even hit a number that constitutes certified fresh.

So I think what it really is is that consensus does not equal quality or mean that a film is saying anything that's culturally interesting.

And what reviewers are ultimately doing is they're applying this super narrow, almost monodimensional, very male brain metric of, you know, how good is this movie or how does it sit with other movies that are considered good? Like on a scale of one to five, Christopher Nolan's, what is it? And that metric is something that should never, ever be applied to Josie and the Pussycats.
