Yeah.
41:53
Uh, and I immediately was captivated by punk rock.
41:56
This is in 1982.
41:58
And I lucked out.
41:59
I met these kids on my block who also liked punk rock, and we formed a band, Evanston's own Verboten.
45:01
Yeah.
45:02
Um, well, the funny thing is is that we've been doing this for 10 years in Chicago, where Michael would say, "I'm gonna come to town.
45:09
Can you book a club, put together a band, and we'll play one entire record?" And we do that, like, once a year.

When did you find the change from, isn't it cute they're playing, to being a real band of musicians? When did that happen in your life?
3:19
I'm still getting the isn't it cute line.
3:21
Yeah.
3:23
I'm trying to get people to take me seriously.
3:25
And I think this podcast performance appearance will change the trajectory of my career finally.
3:36
Yeah, we got a lot of that.
3:37
I mean, I was not only that age, but I was tiny.

With something like this, there's a lot of cover bands, but they have to know that your talent and your passion as a group must shine through on these shows for things to happen like at Newport.
13:01
Yeah.
13:02
And I think...
13:03
I mean, it is such an amazing thing for us, for those guys to join us on stage or say nice things about us.
13:08
But I think...
13:10
One of my favorite gifts of this project is to just be around them and see them together because they're like brothers.
13:21
The first time we went to Athens, Mike and I went out with Mike Mills and Peter Buck and they were finishing each other's – Yeah.
13:29
And then fast forward to the show and they started bickering about a chord in one of the songs.
16:30
Yeah, go ahead.
21:32
Yeah.
21:32
Uh, and I immediately was captivated by punk rock.
21:35
This is in 1982.
21:37
And I lucked out.

I met these kids on my block who also liked punk rock, and we formed a band, Evanston's own Verboten.
25:44
Yeah.

Um, well, the funny thing is, is that we've been doing this for 10 years in Chicago, where Michael would say, "I'm gonna come to town.

Can you book a club, put together a band, and we'll play one entire record?" And we do that, like, once a year.
11:20
Did the dog go with you at the merch table at times?
11:23
No.
11:24
What I, what I would say at the show, I would talk about Juniper and how this is the first time I've, I've done this.
11:29
And one of the stories I would tell, uh, there, there's a great off-leash dog park, um, in Lake Forest, which is just north of Evanston, called Prairie Wolf.
11:41
And when I go there with Juniper, because she's a hunter, there's kind of this rhythm that we have.
11:45
Again, she's off leash.
11:47
So we're walking down a path, and she'll just disappear into the brush, and it's a very beautiful prairie.
16:00
To your annoyance? Not to, you know-
MikeHOST
15:19
Yeah.
15:19
Yeah, I was doing, again, that comes back to Evanston, The Wine Goddess on Main Street.
15:26
Diana is the wine goddess and her husband, Rick, are good friends of mine.
15:31
And they wanted to start doing music.
15:32
So they asked me if I would do a solo show in 2015.
15:37
I wasn't doing solo shows then.
15:38
I was working with a band, and I was touring with Bob Mould and Superchunk.

Talk a little bit about how that happened.
