Is that because they just have to get a handle on this sooner rather than later?
46:27
Uh, well, the Fed meets about every eight weeks.
46:30
Uh, so, uh, they are scheduled to meet again towards the end of this month.
46:34
Now, the, the, uh, Federal Reserve has been, you know, sort of indicating that they were unlikely to raise rates this month but pretty likely to raise rates again by the end of the year.
46:45
So, you know, it's anyone's guess what it might do.
46:47
This news is out, uh, you know, new this morning.
46:49
But, but higher inflation does put more pressure on the Fed.
47:19
So w- what does that indicate to you as, uh, somebody who's an expert in, um, economics?

Is that because they just have to get a handle on this sooner rather than later?

Now, the, the, uh, Federal Reserve has been, you know, sort of indicating that they were unlikely to raise rates this month, but pretty likely to raise rates again by the end of the year.

This news is out, uh, you know, new this morning, but, but higher inflation does put more pressure on the Fed.
5:47
I think it does increase the chances that they might raise rates even at their upcoming meeting this month, uh, and certainly increases the probability that they raise rates for sure sometime between now and the end of the year.
6:15
So w- what does that indicate to you as, uh, somebody who's an expert in, um, economics?
1:37
So does it strike you as kind of a paradox that they would be interested in sports betting?
1:44
Yeah, it is a little bit discouraging, to be honest.
1:47
But when I talk to my students, a couple of things stand out.
1:50
One is that there's a set of my students who just feels like they're the experts at sports.
1:55
They've tracked their favorite teams, their favorite players.
1:58
They know all the stats, and they feel like they have an edge.
2:01
And sometimes they feel like they have more of an edge in sports than maybe they would have in the stock market.

So if I may ask, Professor, what are the next steps? What do you and Professor Johnson plan to do next? What do you do with this information? Do you embed it in a course? Do you embed it in maybe a BYU financial literacy course? What's next?
