So how do you prioritize what to focus on at any given time as you're going through all these big decisions the organization's making in a relatively short period?

Yeah.

I don't think the decision, the timing of the decision really shows how much work we put into, uh, arriving at the decision.

So we talked to Tuck pretty much for a year, um, about possibility to extend the contract and, and, uh, even before I started as a GM, we had made offers when Kevin Adams was here and, and continued to do that throughout the year.

We had a dialogue open and then, you know, at some point we decided that let's go back at it after the season, and we did and, and it didn't work out, and he wanted to, uh, get a change of scenery.

So then we, uh, got what we could as compensation for the, uh, sign and trade.

Uh, Bowen Byram, same thing.

Mm-hmm

And what was, what was the biggest message that you delivered when you came in, Jarmo, um, to the players? Uh, because again, we always talk about coaching bumps, and I know you're a humble guy, but clearly when you and Berge went in there, there was a message delivered that the atmosphere just seemed to change dramatically.

I guess the biggest message was that, the, how we define talent.

It's not just about skill, and, and speed, and ability to play hockey.

It's about compete and character, and that's how we, uh, view talent, and that's how I've always looked at it, is that you could have all the skill in the world, but if you don't compete, if you don't work hard enough and, uh, put your heart into it, you're not gonna win games, especially now watching the, uh, NHL playoffs.

Um, it, it's a, it's a man's game.

It's a hard game.

You gotta really compete for every inch of the, uh, the ice there, and, and the skill alone is not enough.

The, the one thing before I, um, and I know Matty, I kind of have a pretty good idea of one of the questions he's gonna have for you, is, is it strange when you've got, like, you've got teams that are going through this, like, for their first time, like, re- regardless of the regular season results and the, and the consistency of how good you guys were, going through it for the first time in a playoff run, why does it seem so difficult for teams to play to their identity at home over the last little bit? Is it just the youth factor?
