Like, you know, is this largely sort of deliberate or is it just sort of happening where, like, you know, one country sees another and it just sort of absorbs it?
42:32
Yeah, I think I've got a lot of thoughts from my time at Radio Free Europe, just watching across Eurasia how both the Chinese and Russians have exported some of these capabilities.
42:45
And we as Freedom House are also, obviously we believe the US and Europe and other democracies should be very bold in their efforts to export democracy and support fledgling democracies.
42:56
And we've also, we the US and other governments have failed quite a bit.
43:01
And that's partly led to the 20 years of democratic decline.
43:04
And now we're even in a more dire situation because a lot of our own government and other governments are stepping back from a lot of that funding.
43:11
and basically ceding even more space.

Are there any particular countries, whether past or present, that we could look to in terms of the given strategies of how the Congress or the Parliament or the elected legislative body is able to regain some of their constitutional powers?

What's Freedom House think of Iran outside of the context of the current battle, but as a regime and its human rights policy?
54:32
At Freedom House, we've been focused from day one on the plight of the Iranian people.
54:37
And I think that's the real danger at this moment, as there's talk about a nuclear agreement or some sort of agreement on the Strait of Hormuz.
54:45
The fundamental reality hasn't changed.
54:47
And actually, in some cases, it might have gotten worse.
54:49
This is an extreme regime that hates Israel.
54:52
It hates America and Americans.
57:53
How does Freedom House wage the battle for freedom in the online era when a simple annual publication doesn't do much to keep up with the tidal wave of knowledge?
