We are two weeks away from what we hope will be the end of...

Some unpleasant cancer treatments.

And just want to thank you, church.

You've been so supportive.

You've been so understanding of my limited ability to do the work I'd like to do for the Lord.

And your prayers and your encouragement have meant so much to us and really helped keep us going.

Yeah, except

we all still have spiritual gifts.

That

was very nice, Brother David, in New York this week.

Sermon illustration, he told the story about the roach on the wall, how it was nothing to be afraid of, and he said, now if there's been a rattlesnake on the platform, I didn't say anything about spiders.

I just let that go.

We get really blessed letters every single day.

I came in this morning early and there was a letter on the desk.

The first man that ever... was ever a guest preacher at Bible Baptist Church way, way back when we were in the women's club.

That's good preaching.

All right, we'll start this morning in Hebrews chapter number 12.

Hebrews 12, many, many stops in our Bible today.

We began last Sunday a series of lessons that will carry us all the way into December on the doctrine and practice of the New Testament church.

We saw from Scripture that the church is a Bible term for those people who have put their faith and trust in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, been saved by the grace of God, baptized by the Holy Spirit into what the Bible calls the body of Christ.

And all of those are introductory matters that we'll delve into in more depth as the fall months unfold.

But this morning we want to talk about Christ.

Okay?

What God can do for you, He doesn't want you to do for God.

All right, we're going to start tonight in 1 Corinthians chapter 12.

If you were not in the main auditorium service this morning, if you were serving elsewhere, somewhere on the property, if you were ministering at some other location, or if your alarm didn't go off, we can't re-preach this morning's message, but I would really, really encourage you to Listen where you can be up to speed.

All of these lessons this fall will build one upon another.

And we established this morning that the church is not a social club.

It's not a place of amusement.

It's not a house of merchandise.

All right, Matthew 16 is our starting place this morning, Matthew chapter number 16.

If you were expecting us to resume study of Hebrews this fall, we will do that, Lord willing, in the spring.

Lord willing, do that in the spring.

But this fall season, fall, yes, did you not notice it was only like 94 yesterday? It is cooling off, there's a breeze in the air.

We're going to study the doctrine and practice of the New Testament church.

And when I say church or the church, there could be a thousand different ideas flood into your mind.

All right, Revelation chapter 3.

Revelation chapter 3, you survive Sunday night.

Let's see if we can survive this one.

Laodicea.

Independent Baptists, Bible believers, King James people, we've heard all kinds of things about the church at Laodicea, and none of it's good.

And I'm gonna breeze through the material on the church at Laodicea tonight, because what I wanna preach about is not the Laodicean church, but Jesus Christ.

Can you handle 23 verses tonight? Hope so, hope so.

Title of our message is the most offensive sermon you have ever heard.

I'm going to preface it by telling you that nothing I say tonight needs to be offensive.

Let's pray.

Father help me tonight.

To honor your holy word and your son Jesus Christ.

I

mean, a lot of you smoked, and then you got right with God, and you quit smoking, and you drank, and you got right with God, and you quit drinking, and you did drugs, and you got right with God and quit drinking.

So we're in between, we finished up our summer series on God is able and as Brother Dave mentioned, next Sunday Lord willing we'll start a series of messages on the doctrine and the practice of the New Testament church, what a church is supposed to be according to the Bible, how it's supposed to operate according to the Bible, all the little minute details of church life and we'll cover all of that from August into mid-December and but since we're in the in-between time I'm gonna do something I rarely do and preach a little testimony sermon this morning from Psalm 116 Psalm 116 I hope this is not my testimony alone I hope this is your testimony as well and we'll see this as we unfold the message here this morning Psalm number 116 let's pray together Heavenly Father we are so very very thankful that that there is a story about the King of Glory who came into this world to suffer and bleed and die for our sins and rise again that we might have life.

Father, we're thankful for a church in which we can assemble with brothers and sisters of like precious faith who are determined, determined to give Jesus Christ His way in our lives.

And we ask, Father, you'd help us toward that end this morning.

Help me to speak the truth in love.

And help me, Father, to say what is right in the right way.

And we'll ask that we'd all receive these things into our hearts, we pray in Jesus' name.

And I said,

well, it's either Jesus or you guys don't know what you're doing.

Hebrews chapter number 11.

Uh, we, we're gonna have two messages in June on God is able, and it's turned out lasting us all summer long- Amen ... which is okay with me.

I've, I've enjoyed seeing all the things the Bible says God is able to do.

We wrap up that study this morning starting in Hebrews chapter number 11, and this is great news for a world that doesn't have much.

Hebrews 11 verse 17, "By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac and he that received the promises offered up his only begotten son of whom it was said 'that in Isaac shall thy seed be called' accounting that God was able to raise him up even from the dead." Amen.

"Whence also he received him in a figure." Heavenly Father, help me this morning to be a help to your people.

Hebrews chapter number 2.

Hebrews chapter 2.

Anybody remember where Hebrews is? Hebrews chapter 2.

God is able.

God is able.

Hebrews 2 and verse number 17 says, In fact let's start at verse 14 just because these verses are so great.

I learned something this week I did not know.

How many of you have enjoyed through the years the radio ministry of Adrian Rogers? Did you listen to him on the radio? Did you know that he got his Bible training and graduated from Stetson University? I did not know that.

My pastor, the pastor I was under when I got saved, he studied and got his preaching degree at Stetson.

That school's changed a lot, has it not? So, but I didn't know Adrian Rogers was a Stetson graduate.

That's pretty interesting.

Well, remember the old joke about how many of this or that does it take to change a light bulb? Remember that? So here's the religious take on it.

But I'm going to.

You don't have to, but I'm going to.

And I'm going to pray, and I'm going to ask you to pray.

Would you do this? Would you just pray while I'm praying? Would you say, Lord, help me, help me to get what I need out of this message? Just do that.

Maybe if God asks God to help you, maybe it'd be better than what I think it's going to be.

Talk about young people.

We've been talking about heroes, you know, over America's 250th anniversary and all that.

And I was reminded, my wife would be unhappy that I was reminded, but I was reminded about a fellow that I heard about out in Iowa.

While you're finding Genesis 4, I'm going to read you a verse from the book of Jude.

Woe unto them, for they have gone in the way of Cain.

Woe unto them, for they have gone in the way of Cain.

Our God is able series of messages has, I trust, prepared us for these trying times that we experience as a church and as individuals, but I thought tonight, I hoped tonight that I might have the ear of our young people.

The Bible says, he that hath an ear to hear, let him hear.

And I'm aware of the fact that most everyone that attends any of our church services has the physical ability to hear.

Right.

Verse 14, behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth, and from thy face shall I be hid, and I shall, watch this, and I shall be a fugitive, a vagabond in the earth, and it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay me.

All right, Luke chapter number 15.

Luke chapter 15.

I probably will not say one thing tonight you haven't heard before, but I might say one thing tonight you haven't paid attention to.

How about that? I've heard that before.

I know, I know.

We've heard a lot of things before, but we need God to make them work in our life.

Matthew 25, let's start there.

We've been studying God is able.

It was going to be two quick messages on a Sunday and it's turned into all summer long.

I guess we'd never run out of ways to talk about God's ability.

God is able, but tonight a little bit different approach because tonight we discuss God's ability to give us ability.

And that's a real blessing.

1 Corinthians 16 and 2 Corinthians 9.

We are studying in these summer months the phrase or the idea, God is able.

Brother David's been bringing a series of messages on matters of biblical finance, and tonight the two series of messages intersect.

All right, let's start in the Bibles this morning in Luke 14.

We'll be there just for a moment, and then we'll go to Revelation 5, Luke 14, and Revelation 5.

This summer we have been looking at...

Bible passages which speak about God is able.

And we have enjoyed seeing many wonderful things that God is able to do.

Most of them, almost all of them, on our behalf.

Alright, we start in Jude chapter number... whatever your favorite chapter of Jude is.

Just land there.

Jude chapter 1.

We bid farewell to half of 2026.

Even as a vapor.

Alright, book of Jude chapter 1 verse 24.

we're going to start this morning in acts chapter 20 and luke 15 if you have a bible with you please follow along acts chapter 20 and luke chapter number 15 we have been speaking these last uh few weeks about things the bible says that god is able to do and it's a real joy i i don't Don't want to diminish God's work in creation and all the great and mighty things He does in dealing with nations and empires and the universe.

But it's a joy to see that these verses that speak of God is able, have to do with His care and attention for us.

in our lives and things He is able to do to give us life and life more abundantly.

And the Bible says here in Acts chapter 20, read this together in Acts 15, and then we'll come back to Acts 20, so don't lose the place.

Acts 20 and verse number 32 says, And now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up And to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

And then not losing the Acts place.

We don't have a big neighborhood, but

none of those things have happened in our neighborhood in the 40 plus years we've lived there.

All right, let's start in Romans 10 and 1 Corinthians 10.

Romans 10 and 1 Corinthians 10.

Someone said, do you have a short message? Well, it depends.

You listen fast and I'll talk fast and preach fast and we'll get this done.

We're talking about things that God is able to do.

And so we're going to start here.

Man, great to see you back on a Sunday night, especially after this morning's message.

We built this church on preaching like that, and we're not going to discard or do away with preaching like that, try and keep a big crowd.

If we can get a big crowd doing right, we'd like to have a big crowd.

We've got to do wrong or just cut corners to get a big crowd.

We don't want a big crowd.

Amen.

nothing's going to happen.

So, according to your faith, be it unto you.

All right, 2 Timothy tonight, book of 2 Timothy.

I hope we're in the right place.

It's all Bible.

It's all good.

You can't go wrong preaching out of the Word of God if you just leave it like it stands.

And we believe every word in the King James Bible.

It's got all these these and thous and wanteths and willeths and goeths.

Nobody can understand King James Bible.

All right, Hebrews chapter 10, and then one of your favorite chapters, 2 Chronicles chapter 25.

And 2 Chronicles 25, we have been talking these last few sessions together about things that God is able to do.

Things that God is able to do.
