But I want to know what was the reason? What was the moment when you realized this is what people need? What were you seeing that led you to that decision?

Uh, you know, it's a really interesting question.

Uh, I'm, I'm writing a grant.

It's about the challenges of people in, in rural America to get the, the mental health care in particular they need.

Um, reason I mention this is that when I first came to Vanderbilt quarter of a century ago, one of the key things I did in the early days of our research was, uh, I talked to ICU survivors about what had happened in their life after they left the ICU.

At that time, people were very focused on survival.

Physicians were very focused on survival as really the only outcome of interest.

Have you seen that start to shift, or are you still feeling like you're shouting in the dark when it comes to your colleagues and recognizing that there is a post-intensive care syndrome?

But are retailers actually making better decisions or have we simply become better at producing dashboards, like you said, with like Power BI, etc.? ?

I think there's still room for sure.

It kind of goes back to the art piece, but I, I always use the term we, you know, knowing that you're up, down or sideways is great, but if you don't know what's behind it, then it really, that's just data, right? If you have a great presentation that, but it doesn't get executed.

It's just paper.

And so when it comes to kind of, and I think it's retailers and manufacturers, you know, the hope is that accelerating through all this data, and we have a ton, you know, what's the right data? What are the right questions? But then really collaborating, it should allow you more time to have those good conversations, those strategic conversations, build initiatives that really matter.

be able to test them, you know, maybe whether it's in real terms or synthetically or things like that, and then be able to kind of, whether it's fail fast or really execute quickly.

But I do think there's room.

And that was just a different approach, I guess, is the nicest way to put it.

So can you talk a little bit about some validated tools that nurses can use to screen for medical trauma?

I'm mindful of the idea that all of us operate within lanes and boundaries.

You know, I'm, I'm not a nurse, and I need to not be placing IVs, right? I, you know, obviously.

It's true, you know, nurses need to be mindful that they're not clinical psychologists.

But having said that, having said that, there is so much that nurses can do in the psychology arena, and many of the best nurses I know are empowered to put on their psychology hats and to use screening tools, of course, to relate in ways that are very therapeutic.

These screening tools, in particular for things like PTSD, can be very useful.

They're quite practical, and they're appropriate to use.

If you say it-- If you're addressing this on a regular basis, then it is less disturbing, I think, for people who maybe don't wanna talk about things.

I was born and raised in a little town, a little town to me, still a little town, Portage, Michigan, about an hour south of Grand Rapids, halfway between Chicago and Detroit on I-94.

People will recognize that.

Kind of a conservative religious community, a big Dutch population, a lot of celery, a lot of flower beds, a lot of industry and those sorts of spaces back in the day at least.

So it was a really great place to grow up.

Nurses, young

or old, are vulnerable to developing problems like anxiety and in some cases, PTSD, depression.

I think that can develop in the context of a number of scenarios.

I mean, one of them is at a certain point, if you're a human, which nurses obviously are, right? If you're a thoughtful human and you're exposed to enough of a burden of witnessing and experiencing trauma, it's going to affect you.

We should acknowledge this.

I used to work very regularly with combat veterans with PTSD over 21 or 22 years, not as a nurse, but as a psychologist.

And during that time, I heard thousands of stories of trauma.

And what additional training or education would you recommend for oncology nurses so they can stay current on this topic?

Where do you think they go?

Love for them to look at some shooting.

If you can get creative with guys like Chris Middleton, who got bought out from Washington last year, ended up going to the Mavericks.

Duncan Robinson played for the Heat for a few years.

He has a partial guarantee with the Pistons, where I think he's on the hook for 16 million next year, and only 2 million of that is guaranteed.

If they can find some shooters to go along with, not even just a potent defense, because Davion Mitchell at the point of attack and Norman Powell, if they can figure that out, figure that out.

Pella Larson, too, honestly, a very good championship level role player who can slash.

Was there a moment that broke them? And was there any way out of this? Was there any way to mend fences

Talk us through that arrest of Daniela Klette.

I think this is quite an interesting one, and it's also why the Berlin Police are somewhat embarrassed, because actually, her location was found by a local podcast from a local broadcaster, and they didn't give the location to the police.

But then they put out a sort of equivalent of Crime Watch for the three on Aktionswochen X-psilon Z, so a German TV show, and then there were reports of people.

There was actually a train stopped in Lower Saxony, where they said it looked like him.

A passerby had called in a tip, and the whole train was stopped, and the SWAT team went on.

And then it turns out that Daniela Klette had been living in Kreuzberg in West Berlin, which is sort of a well-known left-wing area.

And there were over 100 police deployed to arrest this old woman, who by all accounts, was quite neighborly, quite friendly, and w- her comrades were also living in Friedrichshain, which is where I join you from today.

This latest manhunt has also sparked interesting debates around civil liberties in Germany, particularly around the use of facial recognition technology.

Well, on full-time I was in the financial industry.

So I spent 25 years in the financial industry and then decided that I just wanted to be more community development, more full-time, and so I transitioned out of financial industry in 2024 and then ran the Minority Business Development Agency in here in Utah for about a year.

And then, of course, the government administration changed and decided that they'd defund that.

And so ever since then, I just been out in the strategic advisory consulting world.

Yeah.

Good idea, bad idea? Where do you stand?

Well, it's, it's early days, uh, is, is where I would say, and, and this isn't the first time this conversation has, has come up.

Uh, you can go back 10 years, go back 15 years.

There's a bit of a cycle to this.

Uh, and so what I'll say is it's early days.

What was mentioned in the economic statement was that they wanted to kind of focus on three areas, governance, facilitating economic development, and facilitating private investment.

And what I would say is Edmonton is world-class in all three of those areas.

Yeah.

This might be a tough question to ask, but you can handle it, and, and you can also say, "We have to wait until we get the games that matter." But when you factor in all the moves that Houston has made so far, and then you line that up next to what the Nuggets have done to get more depth to surround the Joker, who do you think now poses a more formidable challenge to OKC in the West, Denver or Houston?

That's a really good one.

I'd probably end up going with Denver, just because the whole cliché of them having been there, and quite honestly, the issue with Denver last season was more so a depth issue.

They have continuity, obviously haven't won the championship a couple years ago, but they're still built around Nikola Jokic, and what, it's what they got that I really like from this off-season, quite honestly.

Cam Johnson, really formidable catch-and-shoot threat, brilliantly able to play off the ball.

That's what you need around him.

I really like them getting Bruce Brown back as well.
