Or other people who've got a growth mindset and like, well, if someone else is successful, what are they doing? What skills have they done? And how can I learn that to achieve what they've done? So yeah, what sparked the jump, the leap of faith? And then how have you found things so far? What have you implemented?

James FellGUEST
Well, I suppose what sparked the leap of faith was I really enjoy working with my friends and have hired kind of people more based on culture and community rather than, you know, they're also very highly skilled, but I've really enjoyed that.

James FellGUEST
And then going for an interview with a larger company and being like i don't know if i can pretend to to like other people um after doing so long kind of working people i enjoy and doing you know kind of things on my own terms so that kind of was like all right this is your last ditch effort to kind of make this work um and i knew that i didn't have a lot of time the kind of baby thing ticking down and I was like, shit.

James FellGUEST
You also, I hadn't at this point in time understood or found a way to pay myself for being off site.

James FellGUEST
So to cover costs for the business, I had to be on site 40 hours a week and then do everything afterwards.

James FellGUEST
So kind of initially went into it and I was like, if I'm going to do this, I need to do it quickly and plug holes fast.

Marti AmosHOST

James FellGUEST
... uh, since the beginning of it, yeah, it's kind of, I mean, at the start I felt bad about marking up materials and, um, the subcontract by 15%, and I thought that was like maybe too steep and I didn't know, and this and that.

James FellGUEST
And then kind of almost feeling like a, you know, a bit of a scammer by, by doing that 'cause I just had no idea about how it all worked.

James FellGUEST
And now, you know, every job we've done now is at a 20, 25% margin and, um, you know, I would, used to kind of feel guilty about sending an invoice and now I don't because I know that, you know, everything's accounted for, everything's...

James FellGUEST
And we are, you know, professionals and that's a service you're paying us for, so I think that's completely changed.
