Like what were some of the ways that that showed up and that you experienced what you considered a gaping hole at that point in your career?
8:02
Well, I think for me, it began with...
8:06
I had context around what it felt like to have purpose as a filmmaker because that's how I started making non-profit films when I was 16.
8:14
So that was how I sort of entered the filmmaking sphere through... charitable filmmaking if you want to call it that i there's a um organization that my church supported growing up and they sent doctors and nurses to west africa and that was really i rented a camera for my high school and i convinced the organization let me go and i like raised the money to get a plane ticket to go out there and that was that was really the the um gas in the tank for me as a filmmaker early on from like 16 till I'd say about 20 years old.
8:49
I was traveling and making films on behalf of organizations that were, you know, making an impact.
8:54
And so I knew what it felt like to be that kind of filmmaker.
8:57
But the problem was always there was no money.

And so the thought of doing work for free or of service can seem totally unpractical for a lot of people because that's just where some of us are in our headspace at that point in time like what are maybe some first steps someone could take who wants to do some good with their skill sets whether they're outer steps or inner steps or signing up for zone for example you know what are some of the things that people can do that feel really stuck like they feel the gravity of i want to do some good with my skill sets but God, I'm terrified because I can't pay the bills and I need to send more work emails, et cetera, et cetera.
