Without any meaningful mechanism to stop Israel from building settlements, this huge imbalance of power deepened, as Dr. Jad Issaq explains.

That's why if the Palestinian layman see the following, that when we entered the peace process, the number of settlers, including the ones in Jerusalem, were, uh, 248,000.

Now we are talking about one million.

So the almost the do- the number of settlers quadrupled during the peace process, and the area under their control became even 10 times more.

If you look at the built up area, settlements built up area, it never exceeded three, three to 3.5% in all over the West Bank and Gaza.

Israel, when we entered the, uh, negotiations, all of a sudden they announced plans for master plans of settlements, which raised the percentage of the settlement area from 3.5 to, uh, uh, 8.5. Later, after the, in the past 20 years, they introduced what's called the jurisdiction area, where the master plans, you know, uh, uh, to add more areas, to grab more area for the settlements and to convert them into settlement blocks, they introduced what's called the jurisdiction area, which is really meant to expand the settlements and to form blocks.

And that's why I believe that now Israel controls 85% of Area C, which by according to Oslo, is the area which will be transferred to the Palestinian jurisdiction except for permanent status issues within 18 months.
