So, um, w- where, was there ever a time, Jacoby, where mental health brought you to the brink?

Oh, yeah.

2000, uh, 2012.

The end of 2011 to the beginning of 2012, it was, like, my rock bottom, my biggest, darkest, deepest struggles of my life, and my family was falling apart.

Um, me and my wife, uh, we separated, and I had to really take count of who I was, and there, I will just say that was just the darkest I had ever become, and I had to ch- I had to change something.

And so sobriety was, was the, my way out, and I, I became a, I was on a journey, this mission to, like, recover my life.

And whether I could recover my family, that was, that didn't matter at that point.

Yeah.

Packing out arenas, selling out arenas.

Uh, last show, Denver, uh, we played, uh, what was it? Uh, Ball Arena where I think, uh, the hockey team there plays, the Avalanche.

And, uh, I just had such a great tour, a great time on that tour, and I remember this was the last show, and I played and got offstage, and I just ugly cried.

I'm like, I'm like, "Can't hold it in." My wife's like, "Are you okay?" I'm like, "Oh, man, I'm just, I'm gonna miss this." Like, it just all kinda settle- set in real, you know, in that moment out there on the road.

And, you know, s- to circle back to that statement I was saying about Chad, you know, it's like, I just kinda was like, "Oh, shit, here comes life."

Amazing.

Oh, yeah, dude, it's awesome, man.

Do you remember playing that song? Were you playing that out live? And maybe that's what gave you the confidence when you went to rerecord it to have what it became?

I'll kind of give you a little bit of prior history to it.

So we brought this thing into the garage, right? And the riff was going down.

Our manager, he heard that riff, the band jamming.

He's like, you guys need to do that.

And the lyrics for the song were actually lyrics that were on a different piece of music that we wrote.

Yeah.

You know? So we did that, and, uh, we eventually got a DreamWo- uh, deal with DreamWorks, and, uh, that was just like, oh my God, you know.

I felt like I had made it to the top, you know.

But, uh, you know, all the while I realized, like, I was just at the bottom of another mountain.

But grateful, and, uh, we went and, uh, recorded all these songs, and the A&R told the producer, Jay Baumgardner, he's like, "Don't mess with this band.

Like, just let's get a great quality recording of these bands' songs.

You know, let's not try to, like, rewrite and rearrange and, like, there's something magic in what these dudes are doing." And so we went in and recorded it, and, uh, this is, like, at the point where, like, drinking really is starting to take off for me.

I was just like, what? I just I just remember being when we did those sessions just recently.

And he came in with these – he knew I was like a coffee guy.

And I'm not a partier, and he's like, this is my favorite coffee spot.

He called and said almost exactly the same thing and described that when you were with Pierre... you're not necessarily concerned about, okay, is this guy going to play my records? Is this guy going to, you know, follow up on that? It was more, you just, you just wanted to talk to him, you know? Oh
