And so they had to delay it until the Easter recess, and the Marquess was supposed to return and do the opening ceremony.

He then couldn't make it because of his Easter holidays, which he clearly misplanned, and it took an additional, uh, about 10 months or so to get him there, and eventually in November he was able to make it for the opening ceremony.

However, wh- when we think about that day in the 5th of November 1885 when the club was doing its inauguration ceremony, only a month later would the Literific be debating on the 8th of December.

We would at that time have just completed our merger with the Junior Debating Society to form the Literific or the Literary and Scientific Society, and we would go on then, as we have done many times since, to debate, and I quote, "The merits of republican and monarchal government." So I thought a little bit more about history and the parallels that Ryan mentioned between this fine institution and our own.

So I thought I would share some of the slightly more humorous, humorous aspects of the club.
