Which is the most advantageous, do you think, being the team that have just this unrelenting desire for it or the team that go, we've been here before and we know what it's
3:33
got? Being the team that's 40 points up with two minutes to go is a pretty good feeling.
3:37
But... uh oh look i don't know whether there's one that's more advantageous i think you want to be the team that settles and that's the that's the thing that any competitive sport or anything any pressure or anxiety throws it at an individual or team is you just want to find your groove and find it early yes grand finals are made up in big moments and there's big moments all the way through a season but it's all all the little things if you get right early on in the game, that can set you up to then succeed.
4:08
So originally, we were very good at finding our feet.
4:14
Now, whether that was in the first minute or whether that was sort of before halftime, if you think about some of the grand finals that we won in, once we found our rhythm and our system, it provides you with a sense of safety more than anything else.
4:27
And that safe working environment, which, I mean, sounds – very non-football but um i suppose you can you can throw a blanket over any environment a working environment so a safe working environment allows people to succeed at their absolute best so um provides clarity in a whole range of different things and when you get that in front of a hundred thousand people it feels like there might only be five people in in the mcg you're just going about your job so um very hard to shut the crowd noise out but um i think that uh the team that can settle early will certainly have the advantage
7:14
Do you sit and watch a grand final and a part of you still tick to want to be out there?
7:20
It does.
2:17
so 2016 you finished 13th then dim is almost sacked you go into 2017 being like shit this is gonna be a long year guys
2:23
Yeah, look, I think pre, like even pre-2016, there's a bit of a story with the Tigers and the evolution of Damien Harvick arriving to Richmond.
2:34
So it took us 10 games to win our first game under Damien in 2010.
2:40
Then we sort of build on this trajectory and you think of, all those famous names that played in the flags, like the Cotchins, the Rances, the Martins.
2:49
The Reals.
2:50
Yeah, and those sort of players.
2:53
Even Grimes and Asprey, they were players that were established under Hardwick especially those last few um in 2010 and they'd all gotten better and i reckon that was the evolution of the tigers under hard because we'll play more footy together so you think about the years that we'd played finals that was um 13 14 and 15. where we're on the cusp of finishing in the top four uh in a couple of those years that 16 was the year that was the the year that we were supposed to ascend the mountain and and climb into the top four and give ourselves a chance of winning the flag and I mean, everything went wrong.

23 MINS LATER

What does Dimmer say at three-quarter time? Is he like, just enjoy yourselves this last quarter, boys? Or is he like, let's really ram it home? Are there any things that he said during the game that you can remember?

Putting a player's perspective on this story today, what did you think? I just think it's...
4:54
Obviously, there's a level of complexity to it from both parties.
4:59
And that's all parties involved.
5:01
So that's the medical professionals, that's the club, and that's the player themselves.
5:06
As a player, you want your career to last as long as you can.
5:10
So the thought of potentially being medically retired or having to retire because of concussion or other injuries is quite daunting because it creeps up on you.
5:19
You don't know when it's going to come.

64:51
Mm.
64:51
I mean, uh, the lowly Port Adelaide Football Club, who, who...
64:55
I say lowly, that's where they sit on the ladder.
64:57
They've played really good footy this year, Port, and, and obviously now, uh, the full watch go-- turns onto, to Zach Butters and, and what happens post, post the season this year.
65:07
But I think Josh Carr will be happy with the way his team's performed.
65:11
They sit handsomely in the points situation for obviously Dougie Cochran, unlike the Blues that are, that are sort of teetering with their father-son prospects.
65:19
And the, the game between, uh, the Swans and, and the Crows may even open that gap to Fremantle in second place even more if the Crows can get it done.
68:00
Yeah.
3:45
Mm.
3:45
I mean, uh, the lowly Port Adelaide Football Club, who, who...
3:49
I say lowly, that's where they sit on the ladder, but they've played really good footy this year, Port, and, and obviously now, uh, the full watch go-- turns onto to Zach Butters and, and what happens post, post the season this year.

6:54
Yeah
6:54
...

30:28
Yeah.
30:29
Yeah.
30:30
Um, I, I think the, probably the, probably the, the one that sticks in my mind more than anything else is, um, Like I reckon I was really poor at giving feedback, but also very easily influenced on being really negative around feedback.
30:55
So I got some feedback that I had really poor relationships with some of the younger players.
31:04
And at a point in time, probably pre-2020, 16 I reckon I would have I would have been like that's their problem like I've been here for 8 years like I know that I'm a good player and I've won a couple of medals and that's their problem but I actually was like I am the problem like that.
31:30
I am the problem.
31:32
So I went and did a trade course, which sounds, I'm a qualified carpenter.
