So when you're saying no, but then you want their attendance up,
20:43
But this is where the system's so broken, and it's why you've got a huge amount of EHCPs, because the level below it doesn't work.
20:52
SEND support level doesn't work.
20:53
You're supposed to get £6,000 per child on the SEND register as a notional budget.
20:58
Now, if you just pick at random a list of schools, do I think that they're getting £6,000 per child on the SEND register that's being locked in to literally spend on that child? No.
21:09
And it's not ring-fenced and schools make decisions to keep the school functioning because of rising costs.
21:16
And sometimes, I know lots of schools that have done it where that notional SEND budget gets spent on an additional teacher because that means that instead of, I don't know, making out but 32 students in a class you now have 28 that's how they've done it and i think that's a great idea because ultimately some of the biggest issues with you know supporting young people in a class is having 30 odd students if you you know if you had unlimited funding the quickest thing i would do to support young people is say put a cap 20 in a class um because you're going to have more teacher student time like it's logical right but like you said the the lack of funding has meant that to secure any type of support, you have to go through an EHCP.

It's always made to feel like it is theirs.
5:45
Quite hands-on, isn't it, in terms of your-
5:47
Yeah, massively.
5:48
I think I was up to an 80% teaching timetable by, uh, you know, a, a term and a bit in.
5:53
So, um, you get a real taste for what it's gonna be like.
5:56
And I guess the kind of- The interest in SEN kind of started at that point.
6:03
I wasn't diagnosed until I was 21 and 22.
6:07
So 21 for the dyslexia and 22 for ADHD.

What, what would be the, the sort of silver line or the, the golden thread that runs through what you do, what your current school does? Have, have you got kind of a, a way of dealing effectively and supportively with either neurodivergent pupils or, or, or young people that just need that level of support? Is there something that, you know, you, you always go to?
