yeah definitely um and in the process of making out the album did you learn anything about yourself not just as an artist but kind of as a person did you take anything away from the experience
4:51
Yeah, I took loads away from the experience.
4:53
I mean, aside from, like, actually being better at a lot of the things it takes to make music, I feel like I learned that I struggle to finish stuff.
5:04
Like, I have a bit of, like, an ADHD problem going on here.
5:06
I'm a bit undiagnosed.
5:08
I just can't start something and I put it down and move on to the other thing before that thing is finished.
5:12
And I just continuously do that.
6:50
Was there a defining moment with this project where you thought, I'm really happy with that? And what was that for you?
3:31
[laughs] Banger.
3:31
Banger.
3:31
What a banger.
3:32
Um, and yeah, so I'm in Sydney for a few years, and I, the, I mean, there's just so much to, to, to remember.
3:38
I haven't thought about this in a minute, but, um, I met my now management, who were my publishing at the time.

10 MINS LATER

14:04
Yeah
14:05
... and so anyways, I've, I've...
14:06
I'm so grateful that I get to do this, and this is a reality.

Football's on all season long on ESPN and streaming on the ESPN app.
0:45
That's actually crazy.
0:46
[gentle music] See, I forgot about this song, and I can't believe I wrote that and then, like, showed my family that.
0:52
Made that song, left the studio at, like, 4:00 a.m. and I was like, "Okay, well, that's not gonna go anywhere.
0:56
That's way too personal." [laughs] You know, when I was looking at putting this record together, it felt like something that was really honest, and I thought it w- it was p- probably worth sharing.
1:05
So you're on the album.
1:07
Technically.

22 MINS LATER

22:39
[laughs]
4:22
How long have you been working on this album for, Jack? And what do you learn about yourself through that process?
4:29
Well, other than my crippling perfectionism and my finishing problem, I feel like I've learned a lot over the process.
4:36
Just as a producer and a songwriter, I feel like I've gotten better throughout this process of this album.
4:40
But yeah, I think I really started pulling it together in the last two to three years.
4:44
But there's a few songs on there that were from five years ago.
4:48
So it's over the span of quite a long time.
4:52
But they've all been freshened up in the past year.
9:32
so many points.

2:31
Talk me through your, you went Mackay to...
2:34
Finished Mackay, finished my school there.
2:36
Then I'm the baby of the family.
2:38
So I moved to Brisbane.
2:39
I started studying music there for a couple of months.
2:42
So you get, okay, you're going further and further south.
2:44
Yeah, I just keep making my way down.
5:15
Yeah, blind loving.
11:09
you have to, like, practice yelling?
11:11
Oh, I didn't practice.
11:11
Like, yeah, this was a very...
11:13
Came naturally.
11:14
It just came naturally, dude.
11:15
You know, life's hard, you know? Yeah.
11:19
Yeah, but you know that was a really like run-and-gun music video We kind of came up with that concept the morning of we were in Florence I believe shooting a few other music videos and we're like while we're here Why not just get one to look at you make it a really simple moment of like finding out this thing and it's just like kind of capturing me in this moment and I was like, damn, that means I'm going to have to actually act now and pull it off.
12:11
Tell me quickly about what this body of work means to you, Jack.
11:09
you have to, like, practice yelling?
11:11
Oh, I didn't practice.
11:11

Now, for people who don't know, uh, Jack Gray, what is the Jack Gray story? Give it to us so people know.
1:02
I grew up in a very musical family, uh, just surrounded by...
1:05
You know, my, my dad was in a band, so I just grew up around music.
1:08
I went to college for about six months after school, and then I dropped out because I signed to a label, moved to Sydney for a year, then I moved to LA for a couple of years.

Yeah
8:12
And, um, and producing it, um, in, in my little bedroom in LA, and I'm, I'm super proud of it.
8:18
It's kind of just about my experiences of, over, over the last few years, and some things that I've been through, and yeah, I'm really proud of it.
