My DNP really focused on primary care and HIV was considered something that you would kind of refer out to and not something that I would really be expected to manage on my own in primary care.

And I really I always had this sense that that wasn't quite right.

Why were primary care providers expected to manage other chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension, asthma, et cetera, and not HIV? And then when I was working within the fellowship, this really solidified this belief that HIV is primary care.

And if I wanted to be a comprehensive and safe, effective primary care provider, which I certainly did and do, I really needed more confidence treating and preventing HIV.

So when we were introduced to the ACCESS program, I just sort of felt like it was kismet.
