the wider question of the volume, because it's called Decolonising Bodies, is creating links between those two things, right? Decolonisation, which we often talk about, is this very academic pursuit and our embodied experience and so what i found so interesting about the julian go quote is that going back to that quote is that he's talking about what sociologists could do right they were having these conversations about what it is to be a sociologist and then they could at the same time be wandering around and see the groups of people placed on display and Throughout my PhD, I was really troubled by the like ethical questions that emerged from my research and emerged for lots of people doing internet research, which is that we are watching people from a distance.
20:34
And so I had this question of like, how do I reflexively think about what it is that I'm doing? And here, reflexivity is one of these terms with lots and lots of meanings.
20:45
And I think people often think about reflexivity in terms of their individual positionality.
20:50
So what is my racial identity, my gender identity, my age, disability, nationality? And those things really matter and are absolutely an important part of reflexivity.
21:00
But I'm much more interested in reflexivity as being a kind of multi-layered phenomenon.
21:06
So Bourdieu, who's a very seminal sociologist, and Louis Wacquant in their 1992 book, An Introduction to Reflexive Sociology, they talk about the fact that as well as thinking about what they call the individual, something like the social coordinates of the individual researcher, they also encourage us to think about another type of reflexivity, which is what are the spaces open to us as academics? And a third type of reflexivity, too, which is how do we think about this more, not in a disciplinary level, but more broadly as an kind of intellectual pursuits, what intellectual pursuits are open to us? So I was trying to ask all those questions while I was in the library.

How do those things sort of, How are those things entangled? Yeah, what do you think the role of aesthetic is with these subcultures online? How can we use the conjuncture to understand that as well?
