What was it first about poetry that you wanted to be a

poet? I wanted to document my story.

I'm Puerto Rican.

My parents were born on the island.

Um, my dad was born, uh, was born on the Island, raised in the Bronx, South Bronx.

My mom was raised between Chicago and Puerto Rico.

Um, and I just knew that their stories really needed to be documented.
