like the book

i can tell i I swear to God, I can see it just in those couple of sentences littered throughout that I don't think this reviewer actually liked the book.

But because, especially in Australia, it's a very small ecosystem and you don't want to offend the people you're likely going to see at dinner parties or book launches or whatever it is that they attend to.

I'm not invited to them.

They sort of always pull their punches.

And I also think it really does a disservice to the writer because I don't think it's like a very authentic form of criticism.

And I think about that sort of, like, the form of criticism a lot.
