I'm the features editor of the Law Society Gazette, and today we will be asking the question: are law firms failing women? I'm joined by two distinguished guests to help us answer this question.

Uh, the first is Rosemary Occhiuti, who is Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of, of Reading, and co-editor of a series of books, Women's Legal Landmarks, and Alison Eddy, who is former managing partner of Irwin Mitchell London and, uh, their first partner ambassador for inclusion.

Thanks for being here, and, and welcome.

I, I think it's interesting 'cause I, that you've raised culture, 'cause I think the culture is what's changed and what is so, so important to how women are able to fit into a law firm.

So I went into law a long time ago, in the early '80s, and at that time only 10% of solicitors were women.

And of course now 53% of solicitors are women, over 60% of, um, of newly qualifieds are women and, and it's actually more than that in, in, in my law firm, Irwin Mitchell.

And a lot of the change that we've seen, um, we talk a lot about the first 100 years of women in law, but actually an awful lot of the change has been in the last 30 years, I think.
