while this is a legitimate, as we have agreed, and growing challenge, social commerce has firmly entered the mainstream.

Irene AumaGUEST
And with around 60%, specifically if I can look at South Africans, have already made purchases directly through social commerce.

Irene AumaGUEST
When we talk about social commerce, we're looking at those outlets that are making goods and services available through your Instagram, your Facebook, WhatsApp channels to be able to make purchases directly.

Irene AumaGUEST
The Gen Zs actually are very open to trying social commerce compared to other demographics within the pandemic.

Irene AumaGUEST
Our research also indicates that 37% of consumers have encountered financial crime over the past year, with more than half of those cases occurring on social media.

Irene AumaGUEST
This is particularly concerning as these platforms often blur the boundaries between either the content and the commerce or creating an environment where malicious threat actors or bad actors, as we often call them, do operate more easily.

Just tell us a little bit, what does this actually mean when we say 70% of consumers in South Africa are using AI to make online shopping easier?

Irene AumaGUEST
So what really this means is we're in an era, if you recall, on the advent or at the beginning of COVID or just before COVID, there was a big migration into online shopping and there was a massive shift from physical shopping to online shopping.

Irene AumaGUEST
So we would have consumers going online to check out uh uh the services or the items they wanna purchase and then at the end of it would have them going to physically collect it from the store or actually uh expect to see it physically to confirm uh payment before they make the payment now the same trend is playing out on the ai space uh publicans that we surveyed About 77% of them actually responded that they have used AI tools such as cloud, chat GPT, ETC, whatever is available to them to actually sense check and see what they want to make a decision about patches to decide whether they want to buy this service or that service or this good from the other goods based on what's available in the market.

Irene AumaGUEST
But indeed, when it comes to making the actual payment, the trust level goes lower they'll still want to make payments based on what they already are familiar with from a trust perspective i

So today we have children gaming and playing, be it Fortnite, be it the multiple games available, active games that kids are engaging in.
